360 ring of death - independant shop

Apologies if this has been answered before, but I just wanted to double check...

A few hours ago I got the dreaded ring of death on my 360. It started working again though, but it has been crashing a lot lately (immediately before the ring of death happened, and still since then too, so I suspect it'll most likely do the ring of death again soon), I phoned the place I bought it from (a local independant gaming shop - I bought it brand new in December) and they said straight away that I'd need to phone up Microsoft and get them to sort it - is this correct?

I have no idea where my receipt is anyway, but the shop did mention they'd be able to re-print one for me (that was without me saying that I'd lost it too), since they said that I'd need it since Microsoft won't listen without it apparently.

Thanks in advance for any information people can give me

Firstly I'd get them to reprint a receipt............Then i'd take the xbox back to them as for the first year, The warranty Is down to the retailer, Not Microsoft.

Yeah that is correct, gamestation do not have a problem with taking back faulty consoles though.

So give microsoft a ring and they will send u a box

i thought it was shops responsibilty to provide you with a new console, not microsofts

Would I still be able to keep the current hard drive from my 360 (and presumably they keep the other hard drive from the new one)? Since I don't want to have to lose anything off it.

I always thought eletrical items came with a manufacturers garentee so there for were the manufacturers problem. You probably could hit them with the sale of goods act cos tbh if a consol broke within 12 months I'd be questioning its quality

Maybe it depends how much 'abuse' your 'electrical item' has suffered Red......???!?

Thanks everyone for your replies, I'll definitely pack it up now and take it back, since it has done the ring of death again, and this time won't load up normally afterwards or anything, just ring of death every time (I've taken pictures and video as proof too).

I'll only take the 360 itself (inc. power leads obviously) though, not the hard drive or controllers since I obviously want to keep my data (plus, it only came with one controller and I bought the play and charge kit for that afterwards too).
