3TB Internal HDD - Toshiba vs WD Blue, 7200RPM vs 5400RPM - not for an OS drive

Hi, I've been doing a lot of googling but I can't seem to figure out what the best 3TB internal HDD is. The main thing I seem to hear is stay away from Seagate.

I prioritise quietness over speed (unless it'd mean a huge cut in speed) and reliability obviously. I have a SSD for my OS so the new HDD will be to store files (some of which I access often) and Steam games.

I've narrowed things down to:
3TB WD Blue 5400RPM
3TB Toshiba 7200RPM
3TB Toshiba 5400RPM
The Blue has a slightly higher Amazon score. I'm finding it hard to work out which drive is most reliable because Google results often bring up older previous versions of the drives and apparently reliability can vary wildly depending on which specific version a drive is so hopefully somebody who keeps up with HDD news has insight to offer!

Some reviews seem to say Toshiba might be noisy but others say it's quiet. I'm not sure if 5400 vs 7200 makes a difference (google seems to say 7200RPM is worth getting but any new 5400RPM drive should be quite good too) but I don't see a Blue 7200RPM. The Blue is also about £20 more costly which I don't mind if it's more reliable or quieter or faster but if not then I suppose myay as well get Toshiba.

Thank you.

Ps. I'm also looking to get a 3TB external HDD to back stuff up on. I've heard refurbished WD's are a bad idea but is this one any good? Toshiba Canvio Basics 3TB Portable External Hard Drive 2.5 Inch USB 3.0 - Black - HDTB330EK3CA

Thanks for any advice.

If you want quality then get WD black 3.5'' HDD. I personally haven't had any issues using refurb WD 2.5'' external HDD's (I've got 3 of them).

About drive noise. Depends a lot on your case too. For whisper quiet operation 2.5" drives are good.
How loud they all are you can find in their spec sheet, they all seem to be very similar with Blue having the slight edge at idle, the Toshiba 7200RPM is the loudest overall and their 5400RPM has the quietest seek.

You can compare performance on hdd.userbenchmark.com/

Drive reliability is really a roll of the dice, having said that failure rates are pretty low these days especially on higher capacity drives so I wouldn't send yourself nuts trying to decide between those three.

Wow thanks for looking those up for me I didn't even realise stuff like that was on spec sheets or that they'd be trustworthy.

Seems like Seagate are highest rated 3TB on userbenchmark, the one company I thought I'd ruled out, ugh! xD

I guess whichever I get will probably be fine, maybe I should just get Toshiba because its £15-20 less...
