The general school of thought is that for bigger screens plasma is the way to go.

For me, the most important attribute to a screen is the contrast ratio. My 42" Plasma has a 10,000 to 1 contrast ratio, and it is remarkably good. I wouldn't consider going any lower than that.

I was in Comet the other day, and screens costing twice as much as mine were very poor in comparison.

Part of my secret is that my set has been DVE "tuned". You can buy a DVD called Digital Video Essentials, which will guide you through the set up of the screen, i.e. contrast, brightness, sharpness etc., as done by qualified AV professionals. It makes a huge difference.

I'd love to recommend my plasma, but it has had a very bad press in the all seeing all knowing ]AV Forums. Some people have had problems with short blackouts, and I seem to be one of the (few) lucky ones whose set doesn't suffer this problem.

Around the 1k mark, the LG 42PC1D scores well, and could be worth a look.

The general concensus of opinion is to avoid the low profile makes and stick to the big names.

A wealth of information is available on AV Forums, and I would recommend to anyone considering a plasma to trawl that forum before buying.

    Hope this helps?

PS The LG can be bought for £997.50 delivered from ]Dixons, if you use the YAW voucher code.
