Im looking around for the best deal on a 42" hd ready tv. I've seen this deal and was close to buying it

comet.co.uk/sho…on2

However after seeing it in store, decided against it as the picture quality seemed very poor. Im not going to be running the tv on hd but obviously want that feature there if I decide to get it at a later date. I was told by the sales assistant most lcds will have poor picture running on standard definition as the screens are larger. Also if anyone could tell me whats better to get, an lcd or plasma?

Not looking to spend over £500-£600

Thanx for any help...

Have now seen this one, and was wondering if it is any better? The contrast ratio is alot more and is full hd.

Plasma all the way buddy

Even the HD stuff will look better on a Plasma, so don't think you're buying into a dead technology.

Yea, I've been reading about it online, but getting so many different opinions from people, so a bit confused. It just most of the lcd I've seen in the shops seem to have horrendous picture quality when showing standard definition picture. Its always blurry and the outside edge of peoples faces and objects always seems to be distorted.

Then you've never seen a new 42" plasma either, or you wouldn't dream of saying LCD is better.

Even putting SD aside (which Plasma wins hands-down), the sharper picture, the better contrast and zero latency of plasma panels make them a winner even for HD content.

This is the set I seem to have favoured towards. What do you guys think? Isit good value for money, cant find another name brand set which has full hd for the same price?

You'll regret buying an lcd, but if you have never seen a plasma running properly I'm sure you'll be happy with lcd.

The main reason for the lcd was playin xbox, and if I decide to invest in sky hd. Everywhere I've read the lcd is supposed to be better for those things? Is the sony one which im planning to buy better than the samsung?

You mean everywhere you've read apart from here?

Please post links where proper review sites have told you that LCD is better for HD and gaming than Plasma? I'd love to read them.

Look, I know you don't know anyone here personally but please take a little advice from a once die-hard LCD fan -

You will not get a better image on a flat screen TV than you will with a Plasma panel.

If you were local to me, I'd invite you over in a FLASH to see how good Plasma panels look in both SD and HD. I've got HD content on both my 360 and PS3 which will blow you AWAY with the level of detail. You've really got to see one in action properly to appreciate it.

Those around you telling you that you need a 1080p LCD are only doing so because they don't know any better themselves.

I have to agree with xboxguru, I had an lcd tv before my plasma which I thought was good quality.
When I saw the plasma in action I realised what I had been missing all these years in regards to picture quality on HD and SD.
Plasma is better by a mile
