My partner and me, we're aged 26-30 (I think that makes a difference...)
We are looking to spend 5 nights in New York in December.
We have looked at New Jersey, Manhattan etc,
Just wondering ...does anyone one have any do's and don't's for New York?
Any advice on accomodation
Haven't been before and would love any tips any one has.

Thank you x

It will be very cold and very busy in December!

i always stay in the park central hotel, seventh ave,it's ideally situated for time square and central park.i have travelled to both jfk and newark and i think newark is probably quicker for the trip into manhattan but the view of manhattan is better on the journey from jfk ! you'll have a fabulous time it will be busy and a bit cold but the atmosphere will be worth it,do have a trip round central park via horse and cart cheesy but magical ! skating at rockefeller centre, wolfman,or bryant park whilst in bryant park visit the best public toilets in the world lol, enjoy

Oh i'm so jealous. We went in April and it was fantastic. We stayed at the Comfort Inn which was practically opposite Macy's and was ideal. Very basic, but at the end of the day, all we did was sleep in there so didn't want to spend a fortune.

I would love to go in the run up to xmas

There's a thread on mse I'm sure that gives alot of do's and don't for visiting new york. Not got time to search at the moment, but if you go to mse and search for new york in the forums you should find it...

If you are thinking of going up the empire state for the view, you are better going up the top of the rockefeller building as it has glass screens instead of bars.....or do both.

Don't stay in New Jersey - its Manhattan that is the "New York" that people think of when they want to go. We usually stay round about midtown as its in the middle of everywhere. Everywhere is easily accessible anyway and usually within walking distance - great way to see everything. As housefan says try and get flight to Newark as it is quicker than JFK - though depends on flight prices etc.

I'm just booking a trip for January next year. I went this January too - I'd advise getting the New York Pass - newyorkpass.com/ . You pick it up from a place in Times Square, it comes with a little guide book which will help you get the most out of your time in NYC. I used it for free entry to the Empire State building, The Rockefeller Center, as well as The State of Liberty. It gets you into loads of other places too.

I stayed in The Pod last time, but I've also been recommended the Paramount Hotel and the Hotel Thirty Thirty. Thirty Thirty actually has some really good "early bird" deals on at the moment so you might want to check that out. As mentioned previously don't stay in NJ - New York is all about Manhattan!
