How much are you looking to win?

Betfair have Obama at 1/6 and McCain at 6/1 for the next president

it's more a question of getting the best return for Obama as the main bet. Any bets attached to it would need to be even safer - something like betting on England to beat Kazakhstan in the return game.

Supermod

I would use www.oddschecker.com. You can get Obama at 1/7 which a single is £1142.86 (£142.86 profit) but you could couple this with a Man Utd win v West Brom on Saturday night with United at 2/9 which returns exactly £1400.

Doesn't 'lay' a bet mean bet against? Ie bet McCain would win? Surely you don't want to do that liddle....

In my opinion you should never bet on international football. When you have teams which stick 10 men behind a ball it is difficult to play against. Stay away from internationals; bookmakers love big punters on international games as they hardly ever pay out on most singles/accumulators.

In England its more of a slang term for "putting on".

Hmm... I guessed the odds would be something like that. 1/6 is pretty bad though. Do you know if there is there a betting comparison site where you can see a list of suggested doubles / triples (forget what these are called)..?

Good point - changed heading to avoid confusion

My advice - speak to levis, he's an expert on time-travel, and go back about 15 months!

Ok, sounds like good advice - although Kazakhstan is one I probably would still bet against

Singles, doubles, threefolds, fourfolds and fivefold until you reach 8 selections and then it is an accumulator.

My real advice - I don't think I'd take up the bet at all, it just seems a bit risky for the potential return, and there are a lots of fickle (and quite a few racist) Americans.

yes, 1/6 isn't worth it - but if I can shorten the odds (maybe wrong term!) I'd take it. I think he'll still romp home despite the haters, etc. If I can get 1/4, I'll seriously consider it worth the gamble.

I agree. Its not a dead cert. Its just more probable which I know sounds silly but if it was a dead cert then they would have priced it at at least 1/15+

I agree too, but this is one bet I would actually like to make. I rarely bet - maybe 4 or 5 times in the last 5 years - but I've won every bet I can remember making in the last 10 years or so (not counting a couple of small Grand National bets and something on here that took advantage of a quidco cashback deal recently - actually that may have been Grand National too, can't remember :? ). I usually only bet on things that I have knowledge about as well as a vested interest. For example, I wouldn't bet on McCain even if he was a dead cert.

Ok, a different question then. If you had to make this bet on Obama (or lose the money anyway), how would you do it? Straight bet or is there some other route you'd take?

Put Obama (1/6) in a 4 fold accumulator with:

Arsenal 2/5 ( Home v. Everton)
Chelsea 8/13 (Away v. Boro)
Man Utd 2/9 (Home v. West Brom).

Would pay a grand total of £3137.43

Profit of £2137.43

If you had to make the bet or if you were confident it was going to win then just a single bet would suffice. You would win over £100 so it would be a nice little earner but a risky earner. It is always good to bet on things with a vested interest. Although bookmakers have experts in every field or their markets it certainly makes things more interesting.
If you are confident with your selection of Obama I would definitely go for it. I think it would be a little foolish to add on a bet of a football single if you are having to consider it. Stick to what you know and enjoy the thrill! Good luck.

Don't think of the risks, think of the winnings :-D

I would have said 'in play' on betfair whilst watching a presidential debate - there will be significant swings when either party made a good or bad point, but I think there all done now?

The profit looks good, but with some of the recent footy results I wouldn't risk a grand on all three of these games. But thanks - that's the kind of thing I'm looking for, just not club football.

McCain is like Tony Blair. He blinks too much.
To me a sure sign of someone telling lies.
Who will win?. I dont know.

Yep, debates all over now. In fact, I was waiting for the last one to make sure McCain didn't have anything up his sleeve....if anything though he made things much worse for himself. I watched the full debate on Newsnight last night and was surprised at how incoherent he was. I thought Palin was bad, but he showed himself to be equally obtuse

13/1 with betfred for Obama to win and have an attempted assassination within the 1st 12 months of his presidency

Bad idea, Arsenal and Chelsea games both risky.

Maybe the next round of the Carling Cup? Gotta be some big against little in there.

Or maybe just put Spurs to lose :giggle:

Still wouldn't have risked so much money on that. It's easy saying 'told you so' after the games. Would you have risked it? Answer honestly please!

If it was a free bet then yes definitely.

If you had bet on those teams it would have been an interesting sweat that you had waiting on the US election. You never know what can happen there.
