50p coin on eBay for £1000! Buy new from Mint for £6.50

Found 15th Sep 2016
Why is this 2011 WWF 50p coin on eBay for £1000? m.ebay.co.uk/itm…500
You can buy this same coin from the Mint for £6.50 (inc postage) or Amazon with extras for £16.99. I've got two if these WWF 50p coins so does any one what to buy them from me for £2000?!

Just because it's £1k it doesn't mean it'll actually sell. CeX had the 20th Anniversary PS4 for £1k too but since it didn't sell so well, they've reduced down to £700 and it'll keep going because rarely anyone will choose that over PS4 Pro.

Exceptionally high eBay and Amazon prices are sold as a means to move money around for a variety of reasons. Like A fruity company has a patent in Switzerland that another fruity company subsidiary would pay £100m (but only worth £0.5m).

I've got that 50p coin I'm rich

Its ebay....thats your answer.

More likely is that they don't have any stock left so instead of removing the listing they increase the price to a ridiculous amount until they have stock again.

Not rare at all.

that was good
apparently the coin value varies from seller to seller. I was so damn happy when I saw the coin was selling for £1k then to realise someone else was selling it for £3+ haha

"Mintage for Circulation: 3,400,000.

Collectability/Scarcity: 2 (for scale details see here)

September 2016: A little ripple of hype and frequent use of the phrase ‘3rd rarest 50p in circulation’ etc has led these to consistently sell for more than face value on ebay recently! They have sold for anything from near face value to £10+. I have no idea how many of these sales are genuine, but they certainly all appear to be average used coins from circulation. It’s a popular design, but there are 3.4 million of them out there! If you want one to keep, find a perfect one, as in my opinion quality always stands the test of time."

Nice bit of entrepreneurship. It works well enough for Apple
