cheers m8 tht cud be an idea but would rather get a 2.5" one if ne1 has seen one for a gd price

Probably best get something from ebuyer or aria via google checkout, it tends to work out cheapest at the moment...

    How about this from ebuyer:

    Sumvision USB2 2.5" caddy 5.99+vat
    ebuyer.com/UK/…509

then add a IDE laptop drive, cheapest is:

    WD Scorpio 60GB 23.54+vat
    ebuyer.com/UK/…590

Add them both to your ebuyer basket, select super-saver delivery and order via google checkout for a total price of £27.98 inc vat delivered! Bargain

If thats not large enough you could use the 120GB Fujitsu drive (QF 115672) which brings the total up to £47.28 delivered - you may be better buying a complete drive at this price. The WD Passport 80GB drive at £42.57 delivered looks pretty good (QF 117582) and there is a 60GB version for a few quid less; just browse the 'External Portable Hard Drive' section at Ebuyer.

The only problem with doing it this way is that you have no guarantee on the hard drive, and they do tend to overheat / cause problems a little more than the fully assembled external HDDs. If you are not comfortable fiddling around with computer components then I'd recommend that you go for a fully assembled external HDD (such as this one ebuyer.com/UK/…067 use google checkout for £10 off, reducing price to £40) which will cost a little more than self assembly, but you will have extra peace-of-mind.

Yeah, it is definately a little more complicated and less guarantees of compatability. However, everything is still covered by warranty (buy Seagate HDD and get 5 years!) and heat really shouldn't be an issue with 5400rpm laptop drives, and I think it would be hard to find a similar spec drive for cheaper!

But those WD drives are very nice!!

Here's one from eBuyer use Google Checkout and get £10 off making it £74. I bought one and it's great. I registered it with Freecom and asked for a free power supply so that I can use it with old laptops that can't supply enough power and it was sent to me the next day. See here for details of the external power supply.

For some reason this wasn't good enough to get voted hot enough but it's a great deal for a 160GB bus-powered 5400rpm drive with 8MB buffer from a brand-name manufacturer.
