9 M/O baby, breastfeeding problems- teeth!!

My 9 month old got his first tooth when he was 6 months, he now has 4 teeth (two top, two bottom) there hasnt been a problem until a couple days ago, it feels like his two top teeth are scraping on my breast and it hurts a lot.. he isnt doing it on purpose, its like his latch has suddenly changed.

I have unlatched him and put him back on breast, opposite breast but it is the same thing. Some feeds are okay so i am wondering why this is happening sometimes? is it possible that he is growing new teeth and is uncomfortable?

has this happened to anyone here and has anyone got any tips.. i have tried expressing but i have always had a problem with expressing, it takes a long time and is more convenient for me to give him breast.

You're probably better off asking on netmums... Only the bravest ask this kinda question in misc!

Hi, sorry I can't help but I'd ask over on the netmums forum.
You may get some childish responses on here....inb4 'bitty'...

Speak to your health visitor, I don't really know what to say other than maybe his latch as changed due to teething. Sometimes babies are teething and about to cut a tooth and you don't really notice, none of mine were irritable with teething so I never knew. Might just have to put up with it at moment and see if improves, besides he might be ready to stop breastfeeding soon, who knows ?

A nine month old should be weaning, are you weaning him?

you could just use follow on milk now, the kids getting on for a year old.

Could be weaning, this doesn't mean they "should" be. It's up to the parents to decide when they're ready.

No its up to the child to decide, read the signs there are signs when a kid wants to move on, besides they will not get the nutrients they need if it is delayed, everywhere advices wean from 6 months or the baby may not get enough iron.

Btw weaning does not mean feeding them meals it means offering them more solid food like baby rice so they slowly get used to it, it could take months, what you don't want is a 1 year old or so weaning, they may not be onto full meals until they are 1 and a half to 2 years old and none of the formula milk is designed to fully support a child of that age, nor breastmilk.

Error440. How do you know the op hasn't started weaning? What a load of crap saying the child could go onto follow on milk. WHO recommend you bf upto 2 years if possible, combined with solids from 6 months.
Op I feel your pain. " no pun intended". My lo is 16 months old and is still bf :-) and I have had quite a few occasions where I have winced because of teeth catching my nipple.
I put it down to my daughter having to re adjust her technique due to teeth now where there was just gum.
It will get better once your lo has mastered her technique.
Keep up the good work. We've overcome the scraping and have moved onto my lo pulling my top up or down when she wants to feed.

I don't hence the question mark. I was asking a question, it's pretty obvious.
And the WHO recommendations are based on women living in the third world with no access to decent sanitation and clean water supplies. NHS advice remains unchanged. (Wean around 6 months when baby is ready, baby can drink cows milk from 12 months onwards).

You weren't asking a question in your second comment. Your saying read the signs. Biting and teeth scraping is not a sign a child wants to stop bf. The child is just trying to re adjust their feeding technique.

Yes wean but continue to bf!

    I was replying to miikeyblue

Error are you a parent of a bf child?

Nope I'm the parent of a formula fed child, not that its any of your business.

So why are you giving advice to a breastfeeding mother?

    http://persephonemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/baby-popcorn.gif

Why is she asking on hot deals?

I don't recall asking a question and giving a suggestion being a crime?.

Strange that you would give advice when never actually have been in that situation. .........

I gave advice to a man that was driving at 65 mph near a school zone, I told him to slow down. Strange that you can use prior knowledge about situations that you have not experienced to make recommendations to people.......

Neither, he is a local nutter and I see him at work on a regular basis.

He passed the UK equivalent of one of these.

    omg can not be serious

telling someone to slow down is common sense.
telling someone they should be switching to follow on milk when they have no prior knowledge is ignorant.

The ones around here shut down at 30mph, i'm rather surprised they put up a scoreboard that records over 30 for the local racers by a school.

What a bunch of moronic answers!! I hope OP got a more grown up sensible answer on netmums!

oh get yourself, the child is 9 months old.

    best gif ever?

    And?

Does that mean the child should stop nursing then because he/she is 3 months from the big 1........

Oh just get over yourself, who cares you know the nhs guidelines, the kids not going to keel over or die from a deadly disease because thry switched to formula at 9 months.

we are are first world country with good food a plenty, clean water and sanitation, free healthcare. My sister was breastfed and she suffers from 2 immune system disorders, my brother got carnation milk and brown sugar and he's fine, I got sma and I'm fine. The breast feeding lobby will have you believe it cures cancer and your child will never be ill, its all just trying to guilt trip parents, when their kid gets sick they wonder what if and blame themselves, maybe I should have breastfed, maybe my milk wasn't good enough because of my diet and I should have used formula.

Mothers should be allowed to choose without judgement and guilt tripping, the difference such choices make to a child born in the first world is like a grain of sand on a beech.
