    9v battery tongue test

    Banned
When you recharge one fully it's almost 10v, do the tongue test and wham hurts even more. What's the max voltage you can cross on your tongue before it burns?

brb-wiring the dalmations tongue up to the mains, purely for experimental purposes

1000 000 000 volts. Try it. It's fun. (tongue firmly in cheek)

you can have as many volts as you like, its the amps that will fry you

Volts dont kill people, amps do.

(That's not supposed to be read like a Goldie looking chain song title)

Yes, and the current is directly related to the voltage (assuming a constant resistance based on the moisture in the mouth, and zero internal resistance of the supply...)

I'd imagine given a suitably moist tongue you could generate enough heat to cause burns with not too high a voltage, but there is the additional effects of damaging nerve endings (and possibly chemical burns) that give the sensation of being burnt to consider also.

    yup, directly and proportionally related.

    Indeed, which makes this nonsense:

As long as the proportion of amps is less than (HUKD DOESNT CLEAR THE LESS THAN SIGN FROM POSTS, NICE ONE) 50mA or whatever it is to **** your heart then technically it is true isnt it?

Been a long time since I did any electronics :P

was messing with my external lights couple of years ago, went bang a few times. Did me no harm.

...and then there was the time I was messing with my computers internal PSU while still connected to the mains. Wondered what the zapping sensation was in my hand then realised I was touching the kettle plug bit, didn't do me no harm either.

A static shock can generate upwards of 10000V. Van de graaff generators go crazy high like 20MV+

Wouldnt suggest sticking your tongue on a van de graaff though :P

Lumoruk - you were likely quite lucky, upstairs, and didn't have very sweaty hands. Repeat the PSU test after being in the shower, eating salty crisps, then standing in a puddle with bare feet, and the results might be different.
