A cry for help...I have the RROD, 3 red lights on my 360.

Well, at a time most critical for gaming, my 360 has decided that it has the 3 red lights. I bought it from ebay around april and the manufacture date is 2005-11-19 and it came with the warranty seal broken already (although he advertised it as brand new..)

I'm not considering the towel trick after reading up on it.

Is there anything I can do, Will anyone be able to fix it for me? Or is my 360's time over and its gone to heaven or to hell as the case may be (I flashed it).

    whats the 'towel trick'?

You could try the xclamp mod (google it), however it is very time consuming!

I would say just buy a BenQ console only on here for about £60 (if you can get it)

Damn, my 360 was perfect, can't believe its days are over. It will be hard finding a decent one with iextreme for a good price I think....gutted.

    Another one bites the dust.

This i why i have never bothered getting a 360

this happened to my OH, he rang microsoft even though it was out of year warranty, thinkin it was gonna cost to get fixed, they told him for the 3 red light problem they cover this for 3 years as it's a known problem!! He wrapped it up and a courier came the next day to pick it up! He got it back fixed with no charge within a week!
    Give it a try!
    Good luck

The warranty seal is broken on mine, not sure if thats an option lol.

lol at the haters, anywho register it on Xbox.com and check if it has had a repair previously it is still covered in the warranty as RROD was extended to 3 years. The seal would have been broken if a repair has already been made on it.

if you dont ask you dont get!

Try this maybe, it has apparently worked for some people, its not too hard, its cheap, you got nothing to lose!:

everytime mine went back to MS, it came back to me with new warranty seals

isnt it possible to "acquire" a warranty seal from ebay

im sure someone would be selling one

Well if i said it back, they will know that its flashed or even worse, it'll come back with a new motherboard and the flashed firmware will be gone? :'(

I'll see if anyone has a 360 in for sale/trade.

If you fancy having a pop at fixing it yourself give me a PM - i'll run you through how to fix for the longest period of time.

    PM sent.

I had RROD on my flashed 360, pm me and ill send you details of where you can get it repaired, if you dont want to try yourself.....once fixed it prevents it ever happening again.

if ya send it back (not sure if they accept it cos it flashed tho) they will charge ya £60 ish to replace it

    ^This is not possible.

They always go again. RRoD 99.9% of the time involves the BGA (Ball Grid Array) beneath the CPU / GPU / Both becomming deformed. Even reflowing can't cure it. The best you can hope for is 3 or 4 months before having to open it up and re-do it again.

The only genuine fix for a long period of time is X-Clamp removal. Akasa Thermal grease and Rubber based pressure pads for the GPU Ram. This increases the threshold before the heat of the console causes the same problem again. So if you sit with a fan infront of your 360 whilst you play you can generally get months of unhindered playtime. But they will go again. Always. It's the fundamental structure of the console itself - which they are only now changing.

If you've had the "Penny" trick applied to your console (which I would assume you are referring to) you may as well just throw some money down a drain. The Penny trick is on the right path, just using the wrong materials. No room for movement causes further damage to the GPU Ram and eventually you'll start getting crashes / freezing which cannot be cured by opening up and tinkering.

Trust me. My Feb 2006 360 is still going strong after I used common sense to fix it. But every few months it will start to go again. So I open her up, tinker, put her back together and i'm away again for another few months.

Well I had it repaired 6 months ago, its used practically every day and was 24.99 to be fixed so its doing great up to now

with RROD you get a 3 year warrany i sent my 2 1/2 year old console back in april with no seal and they sent it back repaired with a new unmoddable dvd drive in. and it was free cos of the 3 year RROD warranty.
Ring em and get them to register you as the owner then if they try to charge you hang up and request a repair online.
    Worked for me:)
