A question on motor cash back

My girlfriend is looking at buying a new car and we've come across two deals. One for a new Renault Clio and one for a Citroen C1, and both include cash back. The reduction in price is £2000 on the Clio and £1100 on the C1.

What is this type of cash back about? Are the cars reduced in price and that's it or is there something else we pay back?

The cashback is another way of discounting the sale - without a cashback offer you could easily get £1000 plus off the price of a new car. With a cashback offer you will be lucky to get any sort of discount.
