About to Buy This PC - Any Better Ones Around?

As per subject, I'm on verge of buying a PC and then thought I should check with the site that knows best! The PC is from Dixons and is shown below...just wondered if there are any others that I should be considering?

    DO NOT BUY!!!!

Can you purchase online? Loads of better deals around.

The flipping graphics card in that thing is about 7 year old!!!

What are they thinking about? Onboard graphics will be as good as that thing, in fact better.

Will find you a much better spec for less than £500. Is this your budget £500?

    Purchase this base unit:
    ebuyer.com/UK/…255
    And this monitor:
    ebuyer.com/UK/…012

Total cost is just under £468.

If you require a graphics card for casual use then add this for an extra £45.
    ebuyer.com/UK/…698

Choose super saver delivery when purchasing these goods all at once to get free delivery.

Or as an extra option you could get the slightly faster processor in the exact same system for an extra £10 here:
    ebuyer.com/UK/…997

Another monitor option at just £106 delivered is here which I would go for, I can;t see there being much difference in image quality, in fact probably none at all over the one listed above:
    hotukdeals.com/for…175

Or out of the whole lot this is probably your best buy:
    hotukdeals.com/for…365

I have not used Vista but this comes with the basic package, when it was first released people were saying stay clear of the basic package and get the premium, just add the premium for an extra £17.

I agree with Beerman. The computer he has shown you is a great spec. If you re concerned about buying online and want some sort of over the counter after care then you may be better off looking/asking around for your local PC components shop. There are bound to be a few nearby (assuming you don't live in the middle of nowhere!) and they will be able to advise you and probably build you something that you will be happy with. Often the biggest problem with these pre-built systems is they show everything other than the motherboard spec and memory brand which can make a difference.

If you have the time then look around and see what you can get for the same or similar money.

You will almost certainly be better off buying your monitor seperately from somewhere like Ebuyer but keep an open mind on that one.

    Hope this helps.

    Ta Duff

    some sound recommendations from beerman,there.

FYI,two of my friends have recently bought the Acer T180 from ebuyer and it is a fine pc,good value for money. No problems so far either, which is good( as these were recommended by myself and the OH!).

The best Dell Deal must be the one Beerman mentioned,(Mike T posted this) but i would upgrade the graphics card as well as Vista.

For £485.99 you can upgrade to a 7300 card or for £509.49 an x1300 card. A further £17 odd for Vista Premium.

yeah but u get a dell... lol. which would be disapointing.

i'd go with ebuyer deal or local pc shop.

Dell use nonstandard componants which can cause real issues when its out of warranty and goes wrong.

It has on older processor than the Dell I suggested, otherwise the specs are pretty similar. However I'm not sure I would trust Gateway as a relaible brand anymore. As for Dell you either like them or don't.

    No you have not.

I posted the exact same system with Windows Vista premium (you only list the basic) and add a much better graphics card that I listed seperate for £505 delivered.

It's also Dell day again today so lets see what Mike T brings us all. He has already spotted the above system but again with Vista Premium AND a 20" Monitor for I think it was just £450. But it looks like a pricing error somewhere in there so it won't be at this price for long. If I were the OP I would go and buy it now if he can!!!
    hotukdeals.com/for…310

Quick go here and buy this now!!!!!! BE QUICK!!!!! Add the 22" monitor and drop the warranty down to 12 months, go through Quidco for a decent cash rebate. You will not get a better price than this!!!!

    agreed beerman..excellent value

just one thing to consider if you're an overclocker..and the E4300 has bags of potential as beerman has mentioned on a number of occasions...the Dell bios will not allow overclocking..well not in my experience.
