Thats the thing, I think im beginning to get bored of IT and whereas im doing a finance module atm and its really interesting however i hope it isnt a spur of moment. I guess it really is up to me at the end of the day.

I'm 3 months from the end of a computing degree and love it, I moved from a networking degree to a more programming, database and web design focused course. Accounting would bore me stupid, suppose it depends what your into.

Networking degree a waste of time and money, you just need professional certs. Fair enough with accounting you have to have a degree.

Quite a few people did say that to me, however out of all the computer subjects networking was the most appealing one I think im going to try and push for a change to accounting.

Trained as an accountant - then moved into Project Managing finance systems implementation so got some knowledge of IT

Now Project Manage multi million pound projects in a totally non finance arena and love my job.

IT is one of those careers that inevitably lead to project management at some point. I've resisted the Prince2 course for so long now but constantly get pushed into it. Most people I know have done it.

Networking can take you all over, I've done a bit of travelling but have family so try and stay local. One engineer I know looked after the Williams F1 HQ network, Man Utd and loads of other places nationally and internationally.

I can honestly say I don't know any interesting accountants. I know it's a cliche and I'll get flamed for it but they all seem either unhappy with their jobs or just dull.

Totally agree........the few friends I've made in the accountancy world are the exceptions including myself lol Accpountancy is rather dull as there are no variations on the theme .......2 and 2 will always be 4 and computers do all the figurework now so it has changed immensely over the last 20 years since I qualified.

Did my PRINCE2, opens the door but never utilised it fully as industry only uses snapshots of it and not the whole process.

Not sure I agree entirely with this..
Have seen several positions advertised requesting someone educated to degree level and also having Cisco/Microsoft qualifications.

Same could easily be said for accountancy with CIMA and ACCA qualifications.

Possibly then, I do know a couple of people who work in accounts who don't have degrees.

I did some IT recruitment and unless specifically targeting graduates for whatever reason, then having a degree was never compulsory even if stated. Depends on the actual job and company I guess but if you want a decent engineer then certs and experience would trump academic record all the time.

There we go then, it's settled, don't bother with Uni for either. On the job training ftw both sides!
