when i switched on my sons notebook there is no little sign for the internet and when i go to settings and click internet options it wont open up can anyone help thanks?

You mean the wireless (WLAN) icon? It happens sometimes. Reboot the computer and it should work ok.

is it a new laptop? might need a driver for your wireless if it is.

hes had it for a few months and has always worked fine, yes its the icon thats gone how do i reboot? thanks for you help

restart it, shutdown then restart it again

Reboot = Turn the computer off then restart, don't kick it around the room at this stage

nope its still not coming up, when i switch on the ineternet button its as if the icon is trying to appear and then it doesnt?

Click on Start then hover over Connect to and click on Show all connections.
When the window appears look for the Wireless Connection icon, right click on it and choose enable.
If it is not there, then it looks like Wireless has been switched off.

Is the wifi light on? Its below the keyboard if not try the switch.

This is likely to be the problem. My Netbook uses the FN and one of the F keys to switch the wireless on / off.

OK. This is something I have tried and it worked for me. Do a System Restore. Are you using XP or Vista?

you have a corrupt netmanger conf
open terminal
type rm -rf ~/.gconf/system/networking
reboot
