    Acer Revo 12.5mm Hard Drive?

Anyone know if Acer Revos can take a 12.5mm heigh 2.5" hard drive?

1TB ones are coming down a bit now and would like to upgrade mine... but they're all non-standard height.

I know they don't fit most laptops or the ps3 etc. but has anyone managed to fit one into their Revo?

It's my understanding it has to be 9.5mm based upon information out on the internet - worst case scenario there was a 750GB 2.5" SATA hard drive available from eBuyer, which I understand is 9.5mm.

Mmm...actually it might be possible IF there's sufficient internal clearance - I thought it was locked into a cage within the unit but the following links just show that it's screwed onto the motherboard.

Yeh I was looking at youtube vids yesterday - seems to be a fair bit of clearance. Cheers for the links will help I think.

Also thinking now the extra heat might make the fans kick in a bit more than usual

    Dunno what to do

get a NAS in a cupboard somewhere

+1 - Or you could hang an external USB hard drive off the back of your Revo.

Already have a USB drive, it's too messy Plus don't like it sat there with it's own psu etc.

And it's too slow. These things apply to a nas too... Would imagine unrar'ing 40gb nas to nas isn't fun

Mmm...so what are you thinking of doing? Just curious as any internal work you carry out could be documented for other Acer Revo owners to consider doing...just a thought.

Did we ever find an answer to the question?

I cracked mine open a while back and upgraded. Only went for a 9.5mm one in the end. There was plenty of room around the drive tbh - would say 12mm would fit. Only concern I'd have is heat in the enclosed space etc. Fail rate might go up.

    Totally.

The way I've got my gear setup is that I have a PC that serves as a dedicated fileserver and uTorrent / Sabnzb box. The files are accessible via Windows file sharing and FTP, Sabnzb is accessible globally via HTTP, and Windows is globally accessible via RDP. I can be off the coast in a fishing boat and use my server as if I was sitting in front of it. It rules.

I do the same thing on my Revo without needing owt else. Have sabnzbd, torrents, sickbeard, DLNA/uPnp video server etc.

Just use NX server on linux for RDP much better than VNC, and faster than RDP imo.

Or if you're feeling hard use SSH
