    Acer Warranty Problem

    Banned
before youbuy a ACER do check out the warranty.I have only had my Acer laptop A few weeks, well yesterday the battery ran out and I had to plug it into the mains with the adapter supplied with the computer. When I turned it on I found that most of the screen had gone white with a few coloured lines down it and there was a black blob like an ink blob.I phoned acer as it was under warranty to be told it was one of the lairs of the lcd screen that was broken and that it was not under the warranty and I would have to pay for it fixing even though it is only a few weeks old and I had done nothing to it,I think it must have been a power surge from the adapter. So before you buy please be aware of the warranty.I phone the people I bought it from Power Play Direct and they were appalled, they are going to collect it on monday and if it cannot be fixed will send me a new one.
I was only praising them the other day on here because it being a fine computer, now I say beware and check any warranty you may have,I would have thought other makes to so you do not get caught out.
I would now think very carefully be fore I buy another......Ok I have thought about it carefully...NO WAY MAN oops sorry for shouting

Was there any indication for an internal screen bleeding when you purchased the machine, my suggestion if they are still not willing to drop the charges (which are insanly high) call a local repair shop or claim this under house insurance or if you have not registered the case so far, purchase an accidental warranty and claim the damage on that

Sorry forgot to add, even with accidental damage warranty you have to pay a certain fee for repairs (of screens only) which should be less than 100 quids (normal screen damages can cause up to 250 quids !

But having said that I think you do get odd faulty ones, nearly 3% of all their laptops are repaired within the first one year. Your best bet for future will be Asus (beleive me this is one manf to watch out for) Dell, Toshiba or best HP

    Hope this was helpful

    cheers:)

It can be expensive but as Dell said, go Asus next time :prop:

The product is the responsibility of the retailer for the first 12 months, not the manufacturer.

According to distant selling regulations for the first six months it is up to the reseller to establish that the item was not faulty when it was shipped to the customer, afterwards he still remains the first contact but normally the clients are referred to the manf

having said that I am not sure if that goes for the damaged ones as well ?

Acer can be a nightmare when you get faulty goods. I got a computer for my daughter at Christmas it was dead on arrival. They were closed for christmas so when I contacted them in january they said send it for repair. 3 times it had to go back and still no luck.
The contact centre will only deal with repairs and refuses to give out Acer's head office details but managed to track them down and they said they would only accept a complaint in writing.

Eventually once i threatened them with trading standards did they give in and authorised the company i got it from to issue a refund!

Saying all that - i then went and bought a Acer laptop from tesco and never had any probs but at least with tesco you can return things easily when faulty.

Best of luck in getting things sorted!

Thats why i'd only use dell.

All I can say is thank god for power play who I got it from ,if cant fix it they will send me a new computer of same spec or better. Thanks everybody for your input

Also just another note on Acer Warranty/Tech Support.

If you get a laptop/PC with a restore disk, but decide to install it with your own Windows disk instead then they wont support it.

We had a problem with a laptop, but the restore disk was scratched, however I had a Windows disk, did the re-install, but couldnt find one of the drivers, rang them to get help and all they would say is that it was on the restore disk, when I explained the problem, I simply got told that they didnt support installs not done from their disk and then promptly hung up.

    Disgraceful.

just for reference its not the dsr that applies here its the sale of goods act.

Distance selling regs cover the ability to return items bought on impulse giving you the ability to send back for seven days from delivery
