Acer wireless issue

got a problem turning on the wireless for my Acer Aspire 5630.

the driver is installed fine and it recognises the card however when i go to manually switch on the wireless via the switch on the front there is no response and im unable to turn it on via windows as it keeps telling me to use the hardware switch.

ive removed and reinstalled the driver several times but to no avail and the device hasnt been disabled. the wireless was working fine yesterday when id installed xp inc updates (new hdd)

any ideas?

if all else fails will this be a good alternative? ]wireless dongle

is the switch enabled in the bios?
on some systems you can disable the switch in the bios and this will prevent it working at all
