I saw this on another forum recently. Basically the idea is that the world - especially that of the internet - is full of bad news, complaints, and problems. This is as true as anywhere on HUKD, so I ask you...

Have you recently witnessed any acts of kindness? Anything that has brightened your faith in humanity? Share a nice story for a change, and let's create a cheery atmosphere and a pleasant thread!

and bossyboots on here sent me a lovely package down for free....full of lovely goodies, guv helped me download sum doctor who i deleted off the v+ box

A few years back I was catching the train to Leeds to go to work, when a young lady collapsed on the platform as the train was coming in, other commuters literally stepped over her to get to the train!, I stopped, cleared her airway, popped her in the recovery position, and called for the paramedics, when they arrived I jumped on the train and thought nothing more of it.

6 months later I went to Leeds for an interview, I didn't recognise anyone on the panel, but turns out the woman I helped was leading the panel and she told me after the interview I got the job, and quietly thanked me for helping her out when she needed it.

I really like stories like that

Karma!

I ran over a dog yesterday, and being the kind soul that I am I moved it out of the way so no one would trip over it.

I asked on here if anyone knew what the price of orchids in M&S or Tesco were, and DLM said she was popping to Tesco and whilst she was there looked for me and told me the prices when she got back. I thought that was really kind.

DLM is lovely

I sent an email to all my colleagues at work nearly 100 people. It was an email letting them know i was doing race for life. The next day i had a few people sponsor me - Mainly the bosses who could afford £10 but one woman who i have never ever met and only spoken to via email sponsored me £5. Also pink_ka on this site sponsored me £5.. I have never met these people, i know the money is for a charity but they took a minute out of their life to sponsor me and wish me good luck which i really appreciate. But out of all those people i emailed, even the ones i work with every single night havent bothered! Some lovely people out there

You gave a member a baby.

Very kind of you

I was asked by a homeless guy if he could have the pound from my trolly but it was actually one of those trolly tokens, I felt bad so brought him a load of food and told him where he could go on each Sunday to get a free hotmeal and food for the next week.

A while back when mobile phone theft was high and making the headlines, I dropped my phone on the way to work and hadn't even realised it as I didn't use it much in the office. At lunchtime I received a call from my Dad saying someone had found my phone and phoned him to organise getting the phone back to me, I went to the company and had it back just after finding I didn't have it. The phone was relatively new and expensive so I was so grateful it wasn't just stolen but also it came not long after I'd had my bike stolen, my car broken into and then my flat broken into so I think it really sticks with me as it did a lot to show there are still good people out there.

John

We ran out of places to hide the xmas pressies so i kept a few in my boot and on my back seats... all wrapped up and the car was on my drive.

A week before xmas i woke up one morning and ....... all the pressies were gone, they even took my ice scraper!!

I did leave it unlocked though

But still.... it was on my drive and i just didnt think people were like that.... had to buy all new pressies to replace them all and a new ice scraper lol

Police did nothing, my own fault i know lol But now im less trusting of people and always expect the worse which is a shame.

That sucks, some people have no heart.

Think there was a thread like this not long ago, but I'll post my little story again..

Around Christmas time I was on the train to London. I was in First class trying to charge up my laptop (cos standard class doesn't have power sockets) and when I was bending down to plug my laptop in I found a wallet on the floor.

Being in first class, of course it belonged to a rich guy. Had £100 cash in and lots of corporate credit cards - with high limits no doubt. Scammers delight.
For the remainder of my journey I thought about trying to find the guy myself so I knew it'd get back to him but all I had to go on was a name (nothing with his address on was in the wallet -- is it just me that carries around my driver's license?). Gave up on the idea and gave it in the Transport Police at Liverpool Street.

The police woman said she was surprised at my honesty - which is a bit of a sad reflection of society. Or just London.

Anyways, the guy got his wallet (I assume the police got his address from his bank) and he sent me £20 in a Christmas card as a thank you!

That is a nice story, and the "nothing dodgy!" bit made me laugh

My parents took being nice and honest perhaps too far - they ran a garden centre (fairly big, but just one premesis and 'local') and insisted on giving the customers the best advice they could with regards to every product... frequently when I was a kid I would hear them recomending a much cheaper product, and on more than one occasion they even reccomended they shop elsewhere for some of their needs - I never understood it until I hit my late teens, when I realised that it was exactly this sort of advice that kept people coming back, and, eventually, the money rolling in.

Good role models, my parents

Yeah i like people like that - Most people will sell you crap just because its from their shop/brand even though they know there is better elsewhere. Its nice to go in and hear staff say "actually try the other one down the road, its cheaper and better" lol

Got told off working for PC World as I was asked my opinion from the customer on whether she should buy a copy of Photoshop from us, when I told her she only needed a free programme from the net my manager was a little peeved.

Not always a good business model though, but I guess it worked well enough on a small/local scale
