Hi there. Looking at getting a new laptop but not 100% sure of all the specs.

Only have a £400-£500 budget. Think I want a Intel Pentium Dual Core (heard these are recommended), had that in my last one. Prob a 3gb/4gb memory, 250gb+ hard drive, err, not sure what else.

Wont be doing any major gaming, just mainly internet and iTunes, saving a few documents etc. Currently have a 60gb but it's full.

Was looking at the following which seems to look ok:-
play.com/PC/…tml

Started looking at Sony Vaio but are they a good as the name suggests?

Any advice/recommendations would be most useful? Thanx in advance.

Thanks, yes, that seems decent for the £400, looks a decent option I reckon - what do others think of this one?

If you want reliability get an ASUS

Oh, really. I have an asus as my desktop computer which is really neat and tidy. Any recommendations on a specific model?

The Pentium Dual Core is being phased out by Intel (though there are still laptops around with them inside).

The "latest" Intel CPUs for laptops are Core i3 (and i5 and i7).

A core i3 laptop would be fine for you.

Dell and others are now shipping laptops with Core i3 in them.

Here is a Dell laptop with an i3 in it (as an example, not saying it is the best)

Thats pretty good spec for the price and should future proof it a bit more than a Dual Core Pentium.

The spec on this looks ok to me (well to my untrained eye anyway, lol). Heard bad things about Acer's though. Hmmm!!!!

Intel are replacing their whole CPU range with these i core CPUs.

There are quite a number in the i core series such as i3, i5, i7 and probably others.

The i3 is the "low end" but still more powerful than any Pentium Dual Core (and many Core 2 Duo).

The i3 are dual core, and some of the i5 are also dual core, Some i5 and all i7 are quad core.

These i core run cooler and also have other features that make them good to have (they speed up and slow down depending on the work they are doing - saving battery life).

Nice one for the info. Cheers

play.com are selling the Samsung R580 (320gb) version for £544, very nice laptop for the money, and the bloatware on Samsung's is usually kept to a minimum.

I am using one at the moment and its a lovely machine.

Plus it has a half decent graphics card, that will play Call of Duty MW2 if you needed it to.
