    ADVICE: Intel® X58 Chipset

    Hi all,

    I have just bought Dell XPS 435T barebone with Intel® X58 Chipset, now my question is what kind of memory can i put in their. Does it have to Triple Channel (3x1gb or 3x2gb) or can i put Dual (2x2GB)

    Thanks
    SS

    dont have one!!

    If you can afford it 3x4gb, I say this as I've regretted going 3x2gb on my i7 last March and wish I went 3x4gb. If not 3x2gb no question

    Yes - you'll take a slight performance hit running in dual channel rather than tri-channel but it should work fine. I'm running one of those machines in dual channel with 4x2GB (8GB total) in dual channel and from the figures I've seen there's little performance loss in dual channel mode.

    use the front page dropdown at crucial (not the scan, i never use that as i often dont have the system to scan with), but notice now the Dell XPS 435T isnt on the list, only the xps 420 with the x58 chipset

    (which says)

    2GB 240-pin DIMM

    * Module Size: 2GB
    * Package: 240-pin DIMM
    * Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300

    so it looks like they havent got up to speed with that model yet

    sorry, but for me, I have always had luck, and had reliable memory when I have ordered
