    Advice needed for problem with Grattan

    I am hoping that somebody can help here or offer some advice. I hope this is posted in the right place.

    Last year we purchased a sofa suite from Grattan and have been paying for it in monthy installments. After 2 months the sofa started to develop a fault with the leather so we returned it and got a replacement. The same thing then happened to the replacement so again this was returned but we opted for a refund as obviously the goods aren't of a good standard. We were told that from when the sofas got picked up we would receive the credit on our account with 7 days and then we could call up to get it sent out as a cheque.

    7 days passed and no credit was seen so we called them to find out why and were told that it is actually 14 days we would need to wait. We waited 14 days and have been phoning them daily since with no help. They keep adding 7 days onto it saying that the credit will show in 7,14,21, 28 days etc. The staff really don't care and we are not getting anywhere. We really need the money to buy a new one.

    We have requested to speak to a manager everytime and they refuse to let us speak to one, saying there isn't any managers, that they are in meetings or just won't take our call.

    We really are stuck now, does anyone have any advice on what we can do or any contacts in this company that could help sort this for us.

    Have you written to them, and have you noted who you spoke to each time you called and their "No manager" response?

    Yes I am noting all their names, have not written to them as I am sure that if they can't be bothered to help on the phone they wouldn't bother with a letter and we really need it sorted asap. Really need the money

    A letter is a lot better than speaking to them on the phone. If you are not going to write a letter, there is little point in noting their names, as they won't sit and wait for you to recite your notes over the phone.

    A letter is the best thing, I would also state in the letter that you will give them7 days to respond or you will take them to the small claims court.

    Contact trading standards first, it can be a 5 minute phone call, then write Grattan stating that you have already contacted TS, and give the name of the TS worker that you spoke to.

    Have you ever read the Sunday Post or some similar paper. They have a section called Raw Deal. They love things like this and may act on your behalf, usually resulting in a very speedy response along with compensation. Companies do not like being named in National Papers. Might be worth buying one this weekend and contacting them.
