Advice needed... off to usa for job assignment!

    Hi people!

Just received notice that I will be posted to the states for a 8 mth job assignment.

Was wondering if I need to get a quad band phone for use there? Will tri band work?

Also, and importantly, are there any similiar hot deals/money saving sites like hukd?

And, any advice on living in USA will be much appreciated!

    Kind Regards,
    Tom

My daddy is from Richmond!!! Main towns in Virginia are great, but you get a lot of little shanty towns too- what sort of thing you into? I might be able to recommend a few places

It's six years since I was there by the way, so I can't recommend a phone

There's a military base in Quantico, I've been to a bar called Rooneys, which has a restaurant attached to it- it's about 8 or 9 miles out of quantico itself. There's a big place called Romans in Quantico too but I've not been in there- Richmonds about 70miles or so from Quantico so I'm not too sure on the area.
Virginia Beach is awesome- you've got to visit there if you get chance

You won't be taking any chances the whole of the us runs off the same 'band' so if your going to pick up a signal you'll be able to do it on a tri band fone a Quad band won't help you any

    Erm.. this site... hxxp://thetravelinsider.info/roa…htm
seem to suggest they run on Two frequency bands..

"Which frequencies are used in the US?

Originally, the US used only 1900 MHz for its GSM cell phone service. In the last year or so, there has been a growing amount of GSM service on the 850 MHz band. This type of service will usually be seen in rural areas, because the 850 MHz band has better range than the 1900 MHz band. It can sometimes also found in city areas, particularly if the cell phone company has spare frequencies unused in the 850 MHz band, but no remaining frequencies to use in the 1900 MHz band.

Most of the 850 MHz service belongs to AT&T, and some to Cingular (these two companies are in the process of merging). Although T-Mobile does not (as of July 04) have any of its own 850 MHz service, because it has roaming agreements with both AT&T and Cingular, even a T-mobile user might sometimes find themselves in an area where the only signal available is on 850 MHz."

so a triband phone may not work in all areas...
