Advice needed on a refund

Just looking for some advice please
I made an order with motel rocks a couple of weeks ago for 2 dresses, when my order arrived the invoice had 'no stock' written next to one of the dresses. I called up and asked about it and they told me that particular dress was out of stock (they did not call me to ask what I wanted to do about it) so I asked for a refund. After the call I realised the refund would not go through as I had been sent a new card recently so my card had changed since the purchase. I called back and they said I would have store credit. (For £16.50) I then went to but something in the sale and at the checkout got this message:

Unfortunately you will be unable to use your store credit on this basket as you are using a promotional offer and/or you have reduced price or sale items in your basket and/or your items total is under £50 in value.

So to be able to use my store credit I have to buy a full price item and spend at least £50!
I understand some stores do not like refunding to a different card but the store credit should not have a minimum spend.

Any advice on whether they are in their rights to do this would be great.
Thanks

I wouldnt have thought that is legal, store credit shoudl be just that, what they have given you is £16.50 off a £50 spend.

Get on the phone with words like....... This aint Hotdeals voucher section luv!

Ask them to credit a different card if they wont give you the correct credit amount, distance selling regs says you are entitled to a full refund. If you have a new card just give them the new number?

they can still refund on old cards btw

haha thats what I thought, £16.50 off £50 means they are making money off their items being out of stock! they have been pretty useless on the phone but I will have to try again. I thought I would be able to just get a refund to my new card seen as all of my other details are the same.

Are you sure because I asked them to give me a refund before it clicked that I had a new card.

i know it sounds extreme-but ring citizens advice-they'll tell you what to say-then you can quote 'i've rang citizens advice and they have confirmed that you cannot.........'

Miight make them think twice.

As long as your old card wasnt reported lost or stolen they can put it on the same card as it usually has the same card number but different expiry date.

I suggest you take the old card with you if you still have it as proof and say i want my refund, or make a big whoo haaa and ask for the manager

Ive had refunds on old cards before, as long as its the same account

I have had refunds made back to an old credit card as well.
