Advice on buying a used PS3

Found 18th Jul 2014
I want something for the living room that will act as a streamer for online services like Amazon Instant Video, Netflix and NOWTV.

I had been considering getting a Roku 3 although that doesn't have Amazon Instant Video. Someone mentioned getting a PS3 as it is the only thing that actually covers all three services.

I have looked online and I can get a pre-owned PS3 for not a lot more than the ROKU. The Roku is £99.

If I buy a PS3 what version should I buy? I am veering towards something preowned from a high street shop who will at least provide 12 months warranty cover. What should I be aware of if buying this?

Don't get any of the original fat piano black models as they overheat and fail with YLOD. As you won't be playing any games you won't need a large hard drive model you also need a remote control will be about 15 quid or a tenner secondhand

Or you can control the PS3 from a Logitech all in one remote which was how I controlled mine until it got the RLOD.

You can get a used ps3 under £100 from game online (quidco & free delivery) any problems you can return it to your local store too. I say online as in store the start from about £110

As for media Netflix, amazon prime and now tv are available also sky go is coming soon so if you have sky you can use for multi room. You also will have the best 3d blu ray player on the market. only downside is if you download films from the Internet you might have the sound stop due to copy right protection.

as for which version I agree don't touch a fat version get a slim or superslim also if you are only using it for streaming media a 12gb super slim is probably your best option as it's the newest and cheapest version.

If you want any more info Pm me =)

If you want a PS3 then the best place to look is GAME or Amazon Warehouse.

You should be getting a Super Slim model if possible as these are the newest or if not, a Slim model. Don't bother with a Fat model as they are old and will most likely be in a poorer condition. HDD size should probably be as low as possible as you won't need as you won't need it for saving anything. So a 12GB should be fine. When you get it you'll be able to see if it's in good condition or not, GAME and Amazon both have 12 months warranty incase you have any issues and with GAME you can exchange or return instore if it's in poor condition.

Went for a 160GB Slim from CEX in the end. They offer a 12month warranty on it so pretty happy with that.
