I find that hot sweet tea ( sweetened with honey ) eases

Plus, I live off lemsips if I have a cold.

You need vitamin c to help fight off infection too x x

Good luck for your fitness test xx

Normally a 7 day course on penicillin or amoxicillin should have helped, 6 weeks is far too long for a chest infection and you may actually have something else, Ibuprofen helps as it is an anti inflammatory, if you smoke it will extend your infection, apart from that I'd suggest you get a second opinion from another Doctor.

I agree, get back to the docs, prob give you a chest x ray as its gone on a while..

i had this last year but didnt go to the doctors untill a few weeks after having it (i only go to doctors as last resort). Anyway i had a course of anti-biotics for 2-3 weeks and they really did work.

How long have you been on these anti-biotics?
And did you take them regularly?

Sorry but have no other advice as in the end the anti-biotics did work for me.

just wanted to say hope you get better soon and good luck with your fitness test

Try a few drops of frankincence oil (yes really!) in a hot bath - warning though it may make you cough up some of the gunk on your chest......................... may help some tho

You need to go to the GP again. 6 weeks is a long time. You may need a chest x ray

Keep going back until they give you something that will get rid of it. I had a chest infection for 3 months when I started uni and had to be put on 4 sets of different antibiotics before it went away. It was horrible. Go back, go back now!

Do you put it in the water :?

Had an infection before and the doc prescribed something that wasn't strong enough the first week. I did not get better AT ALL so after the meds was finished, I went back again and he gave me something way strong and I started getting better immediately. So just go back to the doc and he'll give you something stronger.

Different infections need to be treated with different antibiotics, if the first lot didnt work then another course of alternative ones might

I have been in hospital with these about 6 times since i was 18months (17 now), Amoxycillon was what seemed to do the trick for me and steam. Like just put the shower on really hot close the window and door and just sit in there for 5/10 mins. hope this helps.

+1 Dont sit in silence. In an instance like this if I was not getting far with GP I would consider A&E. Give GP another chance but dont be fobbed off.

physio therapy (losens flemm from inside the chest)... vicks vabour rub (lol sounds like a dodgy movie)
find out why.. could be asthma?
Dont leave it too long... short of breath means less oxygen to the brain... attacks could happen while you sleep.

One day you might not wake up.... thats how severe it can be... get it sorted!
