Advice on new Boiler quote etc.

Having a nightmare as our boiler has all but packed up over the past week... also it falls just outside the scrappage scheme which is a shame as a £400 rebate would be nice!!

Anyhow, our local friendly boiler chap has provided the following quotes:

Worcester 15i System @ £2100 - This would be fitted where old boiler is in the kitchen
Worcester 30si Combi @ £2450 - This would be fitted in the air cupboard one hot tank removed and requires gas pipe to be run across from other side of house

We're favouring the Combi (straight forward 3 bed house with 1 bathroom).

    How do the prices sound?
Is a Combi worth the extra over a System?

Probably give you alot more room fitted in thekitchen if fitted in the airing cupboard, quieter too ?

Have you took that into consideration, as for prices and which is best havent got a clue.

Worcester 30si combi boiler is an ideal boiler for your size of property its cost if you were to buy it would be
with flue Approx £1100 plus VAT.

A combination boiler is the way i would go, as you only heat your hot water as you wont it so you have no waste.
On the heating side there is no difference.

You decide if the price is expensive by what work is involved that price is what the plumber would pay out as above:thumbsup:

I would have thought it only a days work 2 at the most

Where are you based? That may make a difference, i.e. London prices...

Im having a Baxi Solo HE 30 fitted next month for £1650 with a magnaclean fitted, direct replacment for my current boiler but 22mm gas pipe being extended about 6 meters. BTW Im based in the Midlands.

    Hope that helps

I've not been impressed with the 2 combi boilers that I've come across because it just takes too long to fill a bath . Turn the tap on fully and the water isn't hot enough. Maybe I have been unlucky. I replaced my boiler 11 months ago and was advised that my water pressure was too low for a combi boiler, my neighbours have them though, strange.

I will just add the Rolls Royce of boilers are: Worcester & Valliant

You will get what you pay for

Please note i am from the East Anglia Area prices may differ slightly

Going on the price of the Boiler and the quoted 2 days to fit then I don wonder if ~£500 a day is a bit much for labour!

    Man I hate tradesmen :-(

Oh, as per my details to the left I'm in Cheltenham, Glos

Seems a decent enough price (I am a heating engineer). The Worcester Combi would be the best option. It will cost the guy around £900 including vat for the boiler plus a couple of hundred for extras needed. So he should make around a grand profit which is about what we price jobs up at.

It would be 2 days work for two men, or 1 long day (which we don't like)

Thanks for your reply, sounds about spot on as he's quoting 2 days for 2 guys with the Combi and a 1 day (maybe a long day) for the System.

We're a bit pushed for time on this so don't really have time to get another quote in but I'll try and get one tonight/tomorrow.

Is it worth calling the likes of British Gas or just stick with small local firms?

I could get that from Plumb Center, off a trade account.

Oh and Jon British Gas will be £3500 or thereabouts.

The £2500 for a worcester combi is a fair price, you may be able to shave a bit off the price if you are lucky elsewhere but can you wait?

I wouldn't let British Gas anywhere near my boiler - they wrecked the last one. And they're not cheap.

I had a Potterton Combi (Identical to Baxi & made by the same people) installed in October and am well pleased with it. The house heats up more quickly and we don't need to have the thermostat on 'full steam' anymore (hopefully this will be reflected in the bill).

I opted for a higher spec model with a greater flow rate to give better water pressure.

I cant believe that  I know where i'm buying from now on thank's for that

    Great info and advice.

3 bed semi and our boiler in kitchen is at least 26yrs old. Still works fine but noisy and probably totally inefficient

Bathroom now falling apart and needs totally replacing. Would be ideal time to get Combi boiler and get rid of tank from bathroom.

:? Break out in cold sweat at the thought of willingly inviting builders into my house again (really bad experience 10 yrs ago).

Anyone else feel like me
