Advice please - Vertical blinds

I am moving soon to the apartment and there are some really tired/discoloured vertical blinds. I am going to do some decorating and I wondered if it is possible to wash and dye the blinds rather than buying new ones. This would be saving money and helping the environment:)

I assumed hand wash? I dont think washing machine and tumble dry is advisable lol

i think most are washable, also you can but just the material bits without buying all new fittings

No you can't I ran my own company for a while and to be honest just get some new one's it's not that costly. The only way to keep these clean is to use a damp cloth and wipe but ising a vac is the best way and often!!!

I wouldn't to be honest but have a go you won't lose i quess

TAKE THEM DOWN,
REMOVE PLASTIC BITS
ROLL A FEW UP AT A TIME SAY 6 THEN POP THEM ROLLED UP IN A WHITE PILLOW CASE TIE A KNOT IN PILLOW CASE
repeat until all washed on 40
hang them back up when wet with plastic bits back in open window and they will dry

I wash mine in the bath - one cup of washing powder , disolve in hot water, cool the water a little, add blinds so they are flat, soak for half hour ...rinse, hang to dry over airer

they come up like new

the plastic parts i clean with sugar soap and water

ohh and if you put the plastics and the little string bits with balls on in a bowl of water with a couple of drops of bleach they will come up lovely too just make sure you rinse them well

im not sure how they would die, i suppose onyl way to find out would be to do one :w00t:

I section mine out, and put them in a few pillowcases, they get washed all the time.

i, never dyed them either so not sure on that one but why dont you try one and if you dont like it or it dont work properly then you,ve only wasted one!

is there not some in a lobby/porch way/small window
so you could try just dying one?
then if it doesnt work itl not cost much to re-place them?
homeflair do replacement ones for £1 a length.
what colour were you thinking of dyeing them?
my mam uses net curtain whitener on hers 99p from savers

what colour were they and what will they be?

need pic's

As others have said RE washing them, this was on google, btw, what are the blinds made from ?

We have just had new verticals fitted and we have been told they are machine washable. This is how we were told to do it.

To wash them remove the weights whilst they are hanging at the window, unclip each louvre and hold them at the top so that they are one on top of the other, as they are when they are opened on the track. Roll them gently to form a 'polo' mint shape and place them in a pillow case. Knot the end of the case so that the blinds cannot unfold. put them in the machine on a cool (40) quick wash cycle, using a small amount of detergent.

Hang them on the line to dry, after removing from the pillow case of course. Do not tumble dry and under no circumstances use any bleach products as this will ruin the material.

I was told mine weren`t washable when I got them so wouldn`t want to risk washing them.
I must have the cheap and nasty ones then but they all look the same to me.:?

Someone on Google said they used Dylon, whatever that is.

You can always get a set of new leaves for a vertical blind and re-use the mecahnicals.
