    Advice re Broken PC chair

    last year i brought 2 pc chairs from tesco direct. they have only been used for the last 4 months. thing is both have now broken in the same place, and last night OH could have hurt himself serously if he hadnt of reacted so quickly. i have spoke to tesco direct and they arent interested as over a year since they were purchased. i am sure i see somewhere some things are suppose to be covered for 2 years under a EU ruling. Could anyone confirm this please.

    i no longer have the boxes and nothing on the chairs to indicate who made them

    Find some webspace, add some pics including close ups of the fault. Give the age and use, and describe Tesco's reaction - be completely accurate and honest.

    Then write to Tesco Customer Srvcs, adding a link to your web article. It might help.

    Can Tesco tell you who made them ??

    Personnally I think Tesco are responsible as they sold the items.

    If you still have the original receipt then speak to customer services and express your concern and safety issues with the chairs.

    If not try speaking to Consumer Direct or such like consumer advice service.

    Technically the law in the UK allows us to make a claim for upto 6years from purchase, however the burden is on the buyer, and is to prove there was a fault with the item when/before it was bought and wasnt caused by misuse. Also it is the seller who you should deal with under this law, and not the manufactuer. This is under The UK's Sale of Goods Act.

    The EU Law you refer to is that of [FONT=Times]Directive 1999/44/EC however considering the above we already are in a better position then the EU Directive. But because its more cut and dry its easier to enforce, and the UK did take a while to bring it into force.
