Advice wanted on a new digital camera

Found 7th Dec 2009
I currently have a Casio Exilim EX-750 camera. I would like to upgrade to a new digital camera that basically has a good zoom and good flash. I'm always disappointed with photos taken indoors / nativity plays etc. I don't really want to spend more than £250. Unless its worth spending a little extra! I have no real experience with cameras. I would like a good point & shoot type of camera, but don't want to buy additional lenses etc. I would like to do a photography course when I have some spare time!!! Should I wait for the sales in the new year?

Any help would be much appreciated

i have always liked Canon Digital Ixus camera's look great and take fantastic pictures too, and have also been hearing good things about the Panasonic Lumix's as well.

Go for a bridge camera - I have the Panasonic Lumix FZ28 and it is amazing :-)

The bridge cameras are a step up from the compact but not as complicated (or expensive !!) as a DSLR. Mine has an 18x zoom and takes fantastic photos - lots of settings to play with and great reviews. I read up on all the options on various review sites - Which is good - and then had a look round the shops to see what I liked before I chose. Mine was about £250 I think about 6 months ago but if you shop around you should get some good deals.

Good Luck :-)

Lumix! amazing
This one is great, 12.1MP, 5x Optical Zoom) 2.7 inch LCD , £125.10, next model up is around £180, and they go up to about £400, all great cameras suit every budget.

I've got my eye on a Fuji F70EXR, which has 10x optical zoom as well as good low-light performance. It seems to get good reviews too.

If you want good reveiws from reals consumers try dpreview.com/

When researching cameras I find this site superb

PS I prefer Canon But its only an opinion, that other people may not agree with, but hey ho, that is whey we are all different :-)

Good luck, and hope Santa brings you something nice

These Fuji's are just about OK, I tried one that I bought from QVC, but in bright sunlight colours get washed out (at least it did for me) The other problem I didnt like is that the lens range of 12x optical was a bit useless, because I found I was zooming even indoors from 3 or 4 feet away, then all this does is restrict the amount of light to the lens, thus you need to use the flash... which is underpowered

Oh and the memory card is the card which tend to be more expensive

A good way to try before you buy, is buy buying from QVC, you can try them for 30 days and if you dont like it, just post it back

By the way in the price range you could try this one

This is a fantastic camera (opinion) my colleague uses this one, and the picture quality is FANTASTIC

There is as newer one but then the price is more expensive, bu th eG9 is 12mp and 6 x Optical zoom

Panasonic TZ7 comes top in a lot of reviews including the gadget show
also heard the cannon z200 was excellent
check out cnet.co.uk

i got a Panasonic FS25 as my budget was less than yours but very pleased with it so far
