thank you all for your help all sorted now

I had a dodgy copy a year-ish ago. After a while they get inactivated. Is it the 'free' constant 90 day subscription that you have installed? I recommend Avast. Its legally free and much lighter than Norton. Its much more efficient too. I used to scan with spybot search and destroy after a norton scan and it'd still pick up lots of spyware. With Avast this isnt the case

Hang on - why would anyone pay for anti-virus when there are numerous free anti-virus packages for home users out there? Do people still buy anti-virus software?

Avast and AVG are both perfectly decent for home use and much lighter than Norton/McAfee and the like. Paired up with decent spyware/adware removal tools (and a bit of common sense from the start) and there's no reason to expect any issues.

hi yes it was the free 90 day one but have had it for a year or 2 now it was installed with the computer and recently wouldnt update for me , not too good with computers and so unsure of what to do and kept getting a message up to say i was unprotected , all sorted now though goonertillidie helped me with password and working fine now thanks , but will take on board your advice , is nod 32 norton ? as ive heard thats not too good

Norton 2010 products are fine. don't listen to the narrow minded haters who can't accept that things CAN change for the better.
find a bad professional review of a Norton 2010 product.....

I thought it was but I've just found it isn't It seems slackrat77 is as confused as me lol.
I used to be uninstalling, reinstalling and putting in different passwords for norton, kaspersky and AVG. Having it it expire every week or so became frustrating. There are a few antivirus programs available that are free. I prefer Avast as it auto updates and I've not had any problems for over a year. Next time you get switched off by NOD32 Id install it.

I have a laptop with spyware, used to have AVG free but its gone!!!!! How do I install again??

I'm not confused at all. I used all of those different progs as I used to work as a repair tech in a local PC store so got either freebies from reps or paid very little for the software.
No as I (sadly) work at Currys I don't get squat unless I buy OEM copies on the cheap.
I got bored of constantly having to re-crack pirated AV software.
Plus the free ones are free for a reason-limited protection.

wouldnt put my computer under the trust of one.

if the free ones are so good, why does the company give it away for free?
a business needs money to survive.
why do they do a premium version with more features?

the free ones do have less features and are an advertisement for their payable packages. Theyre only free for personal computers (not businesses). I've not had any problems from everyday browsing. I'm not an expert
