    Advice....do you work for BT

Need some advise from someone who works with BT or had something similar done.

Ok so building extension on the side of the house, getting to putting the kit on the top half now realised neighbours phone line is in the way.

after phoning openreach they said we have to pay to get it moved? which I think it seems unfair as its because it is in our boundary, well tbh I just dont want the expensive BT bill. can we argue it, and actually have a chance?
woman on the phone said that its in the airspace and because it was there before the extension then its not their responsibility to pay for it
We can finish building and leave it there but after a few windy days rubbing on the building it will snap, would obviously like to avoid this happening.

    thanks rep added for help

If they have an easement to have it there, which should be the case then yes you are liable to pay for the movement I'm afraid. If they don't then it should never have been erected.

do you know how we check for that? also do you know if we would be liable if its left to snap? was thinking of just asking someone who works for bt if they would move it (cash in their back pocket, if you get what I mean)

How did you not notice it sooner?
But couldn't you build a mount to keep it from rubbing?

Lol I know, we thought it was far enough out, only just cuts through the corner of it, and duh about the last bit I didnt even think about that, fab idea!! repped

Nothing you can do, you'll have to pay now, or pay when the cable rubs through causing either greater inconveniece to yourself. BT have flying wires rights, I work for openreach now a subby for them.

thanks, think we will just leave it where it is and as suggested above will make something for it to stop the rubbing. You would be surprised at what someone would do for some extra cash, especially in these hard times ;-)

    all have been repped, thanks

Really I would be suprised, the majority of vans now have trackers so unless you have one working on your street or you have someone with a vehicle and equipment I'd be suprised.
I wouldn't attempt to move it yourself as it needs a eyebolt and bit of tension (not that you have suggested it).

there is a man works for openreach that lives just rounds the corner, friend of a friend if you like, just wanted to see if there were any other options first, but looks like we wont have to get it moved if we can make something to stop it from snapping. We have got someone to move ours as it is already has extra length on it so was just a case of moving the thing that attached onto the wall (lol very technical dunno what its called!) but didnt want to that for the neighbours one, just incase we broke it
