Advise needed please. Virgin media Grrr

Hi can someone give me some advice please on a really irritating situation?
Here goes. Me and my lady recently moved house and had to use Virgin media for our phone line and internet connection. We didn't wanna go with them because all our friends have nothing but trouble. We;ve just had to upgrade our internet connection too at a rip off price. Because we were paying for 10meg and getting 2meg! Now we pay for 20meg and get 7-10 on a good day but that's another story!!!!

Anyway within the last fortnight we've been absolutely bombarded with annoying sales companys ringing every 15-MINUTES, every week day.
How the hell has this happened? when we never give our number out to anyone, apart from family that need it!
Have those idiots at virgin media sold our phone number?
I will call them when I get some free time (if i can get through) and get them to explain!

Has anyone else had this problem with them? We didn't get it with BT at our old place.
If so? what can be done?
We can't unplug our phone because of elderly family may need to get in touch!

For now all I can do is keep telling these asian call centres to pi55 off.. I don't need another contract phone lol..

It's well known that virgin media sell your phone number to other companies. I started getting sales calls on my virgin phone on the day it was installed before I gave the number to anybody. Luckily I didn't get that many. Not sure what can be done though

You can register with this service that stops these calls coming through and its free, what you need to do is read the "I AGREE" when you sign up to sites or register as the tick in the box doesn't always mean no anymore.Some sites now reverse what everyone is use to and it catches loads of people out some now say if you agree tick here or the box will already be checked and you uncheck it which agrees to marketing calls.:thumbsup:

Common now for companys to sell on customers details. Even if the company insist they do not do this a empoyee can do it if they get access, (t-mobile employee done it recently was on the news)

As for the broadband i find it EXCELLENT no faults here. I was on 2mb but there phasing that out now and you can upgrade to 10mb FOR FREE as seen here: hotukdeals.com/ite…-10

if you upgraded to 20mb why? i get a constant 9 to 10mb. Ive seen it ONCE at 4mb but that for me has been a 1 off.
Also as mentioned above if you get 1 of these companys to remove sales calls from cold calling you, it works ive done it before.

Thank you very much for the advice guys! I shall call them on Friday to see what's going on..
My problem is I can't keep my cool with these companys and end up shouting! Virgin media frustrate me so much. How do they have the right to sell my details on to third partys when I'm paying for their service!
We've only been connected a month,
It makes it worse that we brought an old retro finger dial phone from the 80's and they're so loud haha!
As for the Broadband connection we had no option but to upgrade, they said there was nothing wrong with the connections in the area and 2 to 5mb was normal for a ten mb service!!! Bull*hit!!!
And they call that large haha. My o2 mobile broadband is faster, and the old dial up was faster than what we were getting.. It's just another con so they can make more money from you. We live in a fibre optic area too.
There's no excuse!!

Absolute Rubbish ....am sure you'll find most 50mb users are ok......sounds like your mate is just unlucky.....

well I know about 10 people who pay for 10mbps BB and we all get 10mbps

OP is being ripped off.

Should be paying around £18.50pcm for 10mbps BB and telephone line rental

hi op have you tryed registering with tps tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ i done that then asked virgin to put a block on withheld numbers coming through to me. but still had a few calls coming through from the debt advice people so phoned up virgin again who said they new that there was a problem with these companys getting through and put some other block on and now we dont get any cold calls. but by blocking withheld numbers you may block companys that you want or need to speak to so you will have to give these people an alternative number.

just wait and see, its not just my friend its been over 70% of users in cambridgeshire and some have lasted 4 months and some have lasted 2 days it seems to be a problem with the 50mb netgear routers they issue the just decided not to accept the new ip when virgin send them, they then keep asking for one then the mac address's get black listed as spam
