    **advise please** microsoft windows

we have had our laptop for about 8 months, we bought it off a friends son-inlaw, everything has been fine with it and we have had no probs but yesterday when i switched it on, my screensaver went black and a message popped up saying "this copy of windows does not pass genuine windws validation, you maybe the victim of software counterfeiting".
just dont understand it! how after so long can this happen? has this happened to anyone before? what should we do?

Buy a legitimate copy of MS windows (of course)

the message has come up because Windows has downloaded a update and a Genuine Advantage program.

you can get rid of it, but you would have to ask Google that ;-)

if ur stuck, send me a PM and i'll see if i can help.

There is a very recent Windows Validation update that picks up if the copy is genuine or not. This doesnt necessarily mean it is a counterfeit copy as sometimes if the machine has been repaired they re-install windows using their 'key'. There are ways around this!

we did have it sent to a shop just the other week so maybe thats why, forgot all about that.

Most laptops come with Windows pre-installed so you have already paid for your Windows license.

The sticker to prove you had a genuine license should be on the bottom of the laptop.

This will have the serial number that should be used to reinstall Windows.

If it was sent away and Windows reinstalled then it does seem maybe the person used a different serial number to reinstall it.

I believe there is a way of inserting the genuine serial number but you will need to check with Microsoft.

yep if you update it it will search if its real or a pirate
