    Advise Please on best way to deal with this issue from well known hotel

    Took my wife for Afternoon tea on her birthday at posh hotel in the country..Great service decent food no complaints

    After an hour went to pay , receptionist told me all their card machines were down so could not use my debit card...I said do you have a cashpoint local , she said no nearest about 12 mile away , She told me to leave my phone number and would call me when get home.. As soon as opened door at home call from hotel bit wary but read my card out , told me he doesnt need my code on back ,,Thought bill settled two days later recieved a call from a lady claiming to be from the hotel requesting payment...I thought scam she asked for my card details I refused told her that already given ..She got a bit aggressive and told believe this is suspicious and will not hand over its now 20.30 ,,I said send me an e mail I will pay in bank or drive down about an hour away but I will be asking for you to cover my petrol a tenner ..She refused the petrol so agreed on e mail her hotel bank details

    I still have had no money took from my account or an e mail with their bank details...

    I feel im being intimidated by the hotel if they are genuine calls....They should have had a back up on their comms

    I want to get bill settled asap but dont want to give details over the phone again.

    Why don't you phone the hotel? That way you can be sure its them you are speaking too

    A phone bill would not show incoming calls as you are not charged for them!

    Pay with credit card over phone. You will be protected. Else send them a cheque.

    Ok could you not phone up bt etc and they could find out

    Just sent the hotel an e mail to confirm they did call me and if i can post a cheque..cheers..

    Nah that would be using common sense

    Ask the hotel to send you an invoice and then pay as instructed.

    Make appointment to see manager. explain what has happened and they have not dealt with this in a professional manner. Pay at the same time. Longer you leave it is evidence you are not attempting to pay and you have little defence. Failing that, send a letter and cheque recorded delivery.

    I have emailed the hotel emailed customer services attempted to email the ceo and still waiting a reply..mickey mouse set up ..

    Update,,,Hotel manager has been in touch with an apology and I can go into my local bank to pay them via bank transfer offered me 50% off a next visit declined as rather not return as believe they tried to shift blame on me for their back up failures..Thanks all for advise
