After some help from o2 broadband users..

Just switched over today and doesnt seem so fast. Went for the 16mb package. Was just downloading something at about 140kb/s. I was getting more than this before!

Anyone else have teething problems at the start?

Also how do you access the router?

    thanks

usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 depending on the make, but it'll be in the manual.

Your download speed is more influenced by the server you're downloading from. Max I've had is 600kB/s.

thanks Lumoruk. Just a bit disapointed at the moment as I have come of BT 2mb and I maxed at 220kB/s. Surely at 16mb I should MUCH more?

Try peer to peer sharing and see what you get, it might be that O2 throttle certain activities and at certain times. I know BT throttle P2P right down, I've had to use Azureous in encryption mode to get higher speeds. I'm on 8meg Sky Connect (BT)

I can download torrents at 1.66mb/s but thats only if i got a good private tracker. With Sky 16 meg broadband btw

Only problem is, max i can upload at is 75kb/s, so will switch to be there when contracts up

i think O2 resell Be internet.

I got Be Unlimited @ 24mbt, but only connect at 16mb

Depending on where i download I usually get 800-900kbs speed downloading but with torrents and certain sites i can get as much as 1.5mbs download speeds

Usually my uploads are 120kbs per second.

I remeber first connecting and yes speeds were low i tried some of the tips on the be there forum

    Hopefully that helps

If you can log into the router and post the connection stats, it will be easier to find out what your line is capable of.
    Attenuation up and down
    noise levels up and down

also - use a more reliable speedtest, as mentioned above - the speedtest.net test is influenced by the server that you use. The namesco test is really good: speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/

Thanks for all the help guys.

I think it is probably down to teething problems as sometimes the connection will just kick out. I will give it a week to settle then see how we are performing.

    Thanks again everyone
