    Alcohol Advertisements could be banned.

Anyone else think this is a stupid idea?

If someone wants to drink or buy cheap beer - SO WHAT?!

Its the under-age drinkers that need to be targeted!

Feels like in about 10 years alcohol is gonna be banned in the UK!

but the underage watch tv, so more than likely why.

people attitudes really need to change. fighting, spewing in the streets, and damage caused in most towns at the weekend needs sorting out but this idea will do nothing to solve the problems

it is not cool to be in a complete mess and out of control

alcohol will NEVER be banned! look what happened in America when they tried that one!
but i guess what theyre saying is, cigarettes can be harmful so we banned their adverts, alcohol can be harmful so why not ban its advertising? i'm not saying its acceptable, but i guess thats the logic behind it...

Its all around us though, its something thats just always gonna happen.

As for the advertisements, think of Liverpool, Everton and Aintree, all sponsored by alcohol companies.

Its never going to happen. That is down to people knowing their limits and the bar staff to turn away people that are way too drunk - which won't happen because they will lose alot of money

Well thats it, like the WKD advert for example - everything looks really calm and laid back, you don't see a drunk getting kicked out by the bouncers and stuff.

    google prohibition

the govt haven't got a clue how to prevent the problems we're having with alcohol. they constantly compare us (badly) against the rest of europe and insist on rules and regulations to cure the problems, without realising that its those rules and regulations that cause the problems in the first place. our licensing laws caused the need to drink as much as possible as quickly as possible and its the underage drinking laws that cause underage drinking. the laws are much less restictive in the rest of europe and because there's no risk or danger to teens drinking then its much less common.

it will when they start revoking licences for serving drunk people and closing notorious trouble bars and clubs

In America you have to be 21 to drink, so I don't think its the underage laws thats causing the problems, its just catching on like swine flu, youngsters see older people drinking and see what it does and they want some.

You can't close a place down for serving drunks...thats ludicrous.

yep its already law mate they just need to enforce it to the letter !!

I don't drink, don't smoke, don't do shisha and don't do no other "substances"
So I personally can't care less.

But surely you can't blame advertising for peoples actions? I guess it is a stupid idea to ban the ads.

Well as above really, attitudes need to change, the law can't expect people to drink alcohol and not get drunk. I'm drunk by the end of the night but I don't go smashed shop windows and being a nuisance.

I was gonna say that the medical board are totally tee-total and want to ruin everyones fun - but I know people who are tee-total that like to go into nightclubs just to dance.

Its just like wild fire - its always gonna be a problem and always will be.

i totally agree, it will take the laws to change and then at least a whole generation before we'd become like the rest of europe.

as for the states, yes you do need to be 21, but most of my online mates are from the states and most of those started drinking when they entered their teens. if you tell a teenager they're not allowed to do something then they'll find a way to do it.

regulations and laws will only make it worse

Well thats it, reverse physcology - tell youngsters they can drink and it won't be a problem. Who knows until we try it - but I know one things for sure, I wouldn't allow my future kids to drink until the time was right.

    you tell me......im a sufferer:?

its not as simple as telling them they can drink.
its telling them they can't drink thats the problem.
it should be put in the hand of the parents to create the guidelines and parameters for their kids. the problem is we've got a generation of problem kids who've now had their own kids and these are worse than the parents.
