An axe might do it and then mattock out the rest of the stump; otherwise a tree surgeon will put a chainsaw across it for you. Look around locally for one who charges reasonably.
Edit - I see you already have it out and it's just sitting there. So the problem is the weight. Chainsaw to manageable pieces.
Or you could spend a day cutting of fthe root ball bit by bit with a pruning saw - really it's waste management rather than a gardening question!!
    Good Luck.

It's not out I think its in the ground, which used to be concrete.

when we moved ours it took 3 people to rock the palm tree with my hubby and a pick axe cracking the solid, clay and concrete to get to the roots,
ours went into shook when it was replanted taken 5 months for it to recover.

wrap towels around the trunk, get someone to rock it back and forth and keep digging and cracking the soil around it.
if it is in concrete you will need a pick axe to crack it but be very careful not to damage the roots if you want to replant the tree

If you have something nearby to secure to get a Large ratchet strap and pull the root out of the ground ,my neighbour just hired a guy to do some conifers and thats how he did it.

once the roots have hold below ground its hard work to remove them.
do you want to replant the tree hun?
a guy in work with my hubby poured diesel over the roots of his left it a few days for them to die off and then chopped it down until he got to the roots and just kept digging and pulling them out, they are like weeds they get EVERYWHERE!

I thik these rocking/heaving methods ^^^ would take out the wall as well!!

Don't want to replant, just get rid! one problem with rocking: it's right up against the neighbours wall, and the wall is already falling slightly!

oh yes i see now. ok you will need to cut the roots closest to the wall and then push it away from the wall to shift it. its not going to be easy hun.
another thing you could try is neat bleach around the roots leave it a few days then try and dig at it again

    Cannon - a good idea!

roots could be imbeded in foundations or up and under the wall.
you will need to dig it out!
