All these slow cooker deals - anyone want to share some recipes for them?

    Bought the Sainsbury's one today, so now what do I do with it?



    I use mine for cheaper pieces of beef. pop it in with a drop of water and leave for a few hours and it will just melt in the mouth!

    my daughter uses one all the time for stews and caseroles, she loves it, she also likes to do ham in one

    You can cook chickens in it (I used to do that till mine broke) they don't come out crispy but still really tasty!!

    They are good as well for making a hot punch. Perfect for bonfire night.
    I know I have downloaded recipes before but cant find at the moment. Always preheat the cooker before putting things in as it takes ages to warm up properly.

    I tried a couple of recipes off the internet when I had a Tefal one last year, but it didn't work properly so had to return it.

    Didn't make anything amazing out of it, so was hoping to get some 'real people' recommendations...

    i make shepherds pie in ,mine then leave it on keep warm ready for tea also do liver and onions sausage casserole beef and gravy joints of meat rub with oil for chicken and put on the meat stand with a bit of water and when you get home put chicken under grill to brown if you want crispy.can do fish with mornay sauce .love mine

    Been considering trying this but havent done so yet . Bread in a slow Cooker

    2 c Lukewarm Water
    1 pk Active Dry Yeast
    1 tb Granulated Sugar
    3 1/2 c All-Purpose Flour Or Unrefined Flour
    1/2 ts Salt
    2 tb Oil

    Preheat the slow pot on High with the lid on. Dissolve the yeast in 1/2 cup of the lukewarm water with the sugar and set in a warm - not hot - place. Put the flour in a large bowl and sprinkle with the salt. Make a well in the center. When the yeast is bubbly, pour the rest of the water, the yeast mixture, and the oil into the well. Stir with your fingers until all the flour has been absorbed. Grease a 2-quart mold and place the bread in it. Brush milk with a pastry brush over the top of the bread. Cover loosely with a plate and let stand for 5 minutes in a warm place. Place on a trivet in the slow cooker, cover the cooker, and bake on High for 2 to 3 hours. Makes 1 loaf.

    1 bottle sherry 6 cups orange juice
    1 tsp. ground cardamom
    In crock, combine sherry with orange juice and cardamom. Cover and heat on low
    for 2 to 3 hours. Serve with ladle from crock.

    You can ammend with whatever you have available

    Poached Pears in Fragrant Syrup
    Serves 4
    4 medium pears, peeled
    1 1⁄2 cups Riesling
    1⁄4 cup castor sugar
    1 cinnamon stick
    4 whole cloves
    4cm strip lemon rind
    4cm strip orange rind
    2 teaspoons rose water
    1⁄2 teaspoon orange essence
    vanilla ice cream, to serve
    1. Trim base of pears, if required, and place upright in slow cooker. Add remaining ingredients.
    2. Cover and cook on LOW or AUTO for 4 -5 hours, or until pears are very tender. Baste occasionally while cooking.
    3. Remove pears and set aside.
    4. Strain cooking liquid and place in medium saucepan.
    Bring to the boil over high heat and cook until reduced by half, to form a syrup.
    5. Serve pears warm, or chilled with syrup poured over and ice-cream to serve, if desired.

    Slow cooker Rice Pudding
    Butter the inside of the cooking pot. Add 400ml milk, 150ml evaporated milk, 50g pudding rice, 50g sugar. Stir and cook for 4-5 hours.

    Lamb Stew in a slow cooker

    Take a piece of lamb - most slow cooker recipes suggest browning the meat first before putting it in the slow cooker. Cut into small pieces, place with chopped vegetables and potatoes, add stock, herbs and anything you’d add in to a normal lamb stew.

    The recipe is simple - or as complicated as you want it to be. Anything you can do on a low simmer in the oven or in a saucepan can be done in a slow cooker so feel free to experiment. As long as you follow the basic rules of a slow cooker, ie: the right amount of liquid, browning meat where necessary then you’ll find most things will work. If things don’t turn out quite how you want them to then why not give the dish French name?

    I will be trying some recipes over the next few weeks and letting you know how well I get on.

    Stew is one of the few dishes I remember my mother making when I was a child. I remember it mostly because she used to cut parsnips up to make them look like potatoes in the vain hope she’d be able to get me to eat more veg! I never fell for it - but would happily eat all the rest of the stew she’d make. She used left over Sunday roast beef cut into small pieces, add with potatoes, carrots, parsnips and stock cubes to make a really nice stew. Very occasionally she’d make dumplings. These I completely loved!

    Chicken stew would also work in a slow cooker. You can imagine how nice the carrots, leeks, potatoes and chicken would all taste together.
