    Alternative razor to Gillette?

I've been using Gillette razors for years but they're bloomin expensive. I was reading the King of Shaves deal earlier but the razors get very mixed reviews on amazon with the majority saying they cut you to shreds so was wandering what experience people have here of decent alternatives to Gillettes?

    Use a rock

Only non-men use razors (or sharp rocks)

DO YOU WANT TO BE A NON-MAN?

Chuck Norris doesn't shave - he beats the hairs into submission then makes them grow back in.

The King of Shaves Azor is really easy to use IF you follow the instructions. If you dont it will shred your face!! I always used Gillette Fusion's and these Azors really work just as well if not better. I also find the KOS products to be fantastic, the menthol shave gel is brilliant. Enjoy!!

If I recall Deal Extreme sells gillette razors and blade sets so mite be worth a look.

I stopped using the gillette and other expensive brands a few years ago. Just got annoyed with rediculous prices for blades. That plus I dont really want 15 blades to tear up my face. Started using a simple double edge razor I got from the super market which take the old school razor blade replacements. cheap as chips fella. Just upgraded to a vision from It cost a bit but the amount i've saved on blades in the last few years, thought it'd be worth it.]http//ww…com. I'm hooked now: old school is the future!

King of shaves razor is useless......you get what you pay for to be honest.....i always use mach 3 and it does the job

Why did Chuck Norris shave his beard?

His beard was faced with a forest fire and Chuck Norris decided that he didn't want to make the forest fire cry, so he shaved his beard.

i use Wilkinson i find they are best but everyone has there own opinion

you do get what you pay for if you want to pay for overpriced over'bladed' unnecessary gimick blades from these companies. Total rip off merchants if you ask me.

Invest in an open razor and strop, you are talking an outlay of £30-£40 for a decent one, but will literally last a lifetime, so whats that work out as? 8 packs of 4 blades tops! Cheaper than an electric razor, a better shave than any "safety" razor smooth and close.

thanks for all the interesting replies. Dealextreme seem to sell a strange pivoting head gillette?? lol at chuck norris. Conflicting reviews here of the KOS razor too, can't decide about that. Very interesting about shave-shack though, bit scared of using a 'proper' razor blade though! Is it much different? does is take much getting used to and do you have to shave in a different way?

True, if you can handle it ok. must admit, I dont trust myself with one. That would be my choice if I thought i could do it ( for price and shave quality). As it is though, a good stop gap must be a DE saftey razor?

Takes a few goes getting used to but its not that much different at all really. plus I used to suffer from alot of razor burn but I dont get half as much any more, indeed likewise with ingrowing hairs. if your interested, i'd give it a go and buy a cheapie down the supermarket, there all there with the 'pricey' razors. prob 3 quid for one with blades. gove it a few weeks and see how you go.

really? didn't realise you could get them in the supermarkets!? Are they going to be inferior to something like this: shaving-shack.com/sho…e=1
just like cheap razors are inferior to gillettes for example?

Thats just a safety razor, ok for travelling, but open razors (aka cut throat) are the way to go.

They will be a bit inferior but, to be honest, it will give you a good idea of if you like it or not. I used the cheapo one from the supermarket for a good two years or so and it was good. Now i just bought a rediculously expensive one and it is very very good. Suppose it depends on how much you want to spend (bear in mind, this kind of shaving might not be for you).

However, the savings do speak for themselves. I shave maybe 3 times a week. I can prob get two weeks out of a blade (same as a replacement mach 3 or whatever) pay a couple of quid (or less if you buy more) for 10 blades compared with the 6 quid + for 4 of the gillette kind. Worth trying first at anyrate for a few quid. You'll see the boxes in tesco or wherever of the razor (really old and dated looking packaging!)

Again, good if you can handle it. Muchos respect to you fella!

Same here. I use a ]Merkur safety razor. And its the best investment ever. All these 3,4,5 bladed razors are nothing but gimmicks, you'll get a fantastic shave from a good old fasioned safety razor. They take a little getting used to because a of the weight, but worth the perseverance.

There a complete Revelation aren't they. You realise that all this multi blade vibration crap is nothing but complete bobbins!

I used one of these ages back, never knew where to get one from.
Am going to order one I think, what do I need with it though, is it worth getting the brush and stand etc, or just the razor and a big pack of blades?

    Mike..
