Am i being unreasonable? re Christmas

In October my brother and his girlfriend invited me, hubby and 2 children to their for Christmas day. They live 60 miles away so would be out for the day so asked hubby if he fancied spending Christmas at my brothers and he said yeah and it would be nice.

A couple of weeks later we sold our car (had been planning to sell it for a while) so rang my brother to say we wouldnt be able to make it for Christmas. He was gutted as would have been the first Christmas we had all spent together as a family in 15 years.

I decided that with my Christmas money i got from my grandad to organise renting a car to go. I asked him about this and he got in a mood saying he would be bored there and didnt want to go. When i questioned him about it and that he agreed months before he said that he didnt think we would be going anyways and i got the feeling he only said yes before as he knew we wouldnt have a car for Christmas.

Hes now decided that hes not coming with us and is going to spend Christmas day on his own. Our children are 9 and 5 and think its totally selfish and unacceptable for him to say this, to go back on his word and cant understand why he would prefer to spend christmas day on his own rather than me, kids and family. He gets on with my brother and doesnt have any probs with him.

    Am i being unreasonable?

yep, wish the wife would take herself and the kids away for the day, that would be the best present ever.

yeah, what would he rather be doing? ... seems unfair on yourself and the kids and quite rude...

I didnt say my 5 year old called him selfish.. i called him selfish. I was just saying how old our children were..

    Nice husband - Great dad

    you must be so proud

So you are not going to let your kids spend Christmas with their dad???
Obvious solution would be for your brother and girlfriend to come to you. Your brother should be fine with this as he is so keen for you all to spend Christmas together.
Your hubby may be creature of habit and not want to go anywhere else??

Selfish get, christmas is about family and time together...get him told, or tell him it wont only be christmas day he will be on his own!

To be fair....it was the first thing that came to my mind also. Not necc whilst they are away on xmas day, but it does sound a little fishy.

60 mile drive in the freezing cold, with 2 kids going "are we there yet, are we there yet, are we there yet, " of course he will be looking forward to it.

if you have 3 kids and feel this way you ought to be ashamed of yourself. Oh and not all kids are 'are we there..............' i regularly do 80 miles with mine and don't get that, maybe if you gave them the attention they deserve they wouldn't feel the need to try and get it another way

    punch him

OP - you know what you should do - speak to your husband and sort it out with him. Very little good comes of posting things like this on here.....as you can see by some of the comments already.

wow, what do you use chloroform, sleeping tablets?

There is a sort of comfort at being at your own home at Christmas... shoes off... walking to the loo in your undies.... putting your feet wherever ..... spilling whatever... and doing whatever... Can't do that at someone elses house.
