    Am i over reacting?!

Im absolutely fuming...i got off the train at 6:15 am with my daughter in order to catch the local bus to my work.It was pouring with rain and got £10 out of the cashpoint. The bus driver said he had no change but could give me a change voucher for £9.20 and said i could wait at the stop later and cash it in with another bus driver. i never use that bus company as it doesnt go from my house but got train this morning as had to be in early. I also needed the change to buy my lunch. So the driver refused to take me closed the doors and drove off..leaving us to walk in the pouring rain and me push my daughter in her pushchair over a mile up a long steep roadin the dark. Needless to say i was late and we were both soaked. I phoned the bus company and all he could say was if an inspector got on at the next stop and i had no ticket he would lose his job..nothing about our safety!I didnt even get an apology!!

I mean no offence by reply. But may i ask what else the bus driver could have done? You were trying to pay for an 80p fair with a £10 note. And you were the one who refused his solution to the problem. Should he really risk his job so that you could buy lunch?

It is sad but when a driver takes over a bus they are only issued with a couple of quid in change...so the fact he has no change is acceptable...why couldnt you go to a shop in the train station (off licence or something) to get some change then get on the next bus?:?

Some bus drivers dont care. When i was pregnant with my daughter coming home i had to wait for a hour by thing time it was 9, it was tipping down. Anyway when i got on the bus the bus driver woulnt give me change of a fiver (its £2 to get on a bus without oyster card here) So i dint get on a bus to gone 10 ...... its not safe to be out alone and heavily pregnant at that time of night where i live. Being pregnant i was a hormal wreck so when i finally got home i burst out crying lol Horrid bus drivers

it used to well pee me off when this happened to us before thankfully i now drive

blimey, bet these werent the responses you expected!!

Yeh they do like the exact amount or close as but depends which driver you might get, some are ok and not others. I needed £2 something other day for bus fare,I was caught unexpected and only had £20 note and he was ok about taking it,however I managed to count up a load of 20p pieces and had enough.
If there been any fuss I'd got taxi, the bus journey took about 20mins.

on the other hand some bus drivers have let us ride for free as he didnt have enough change same with everything you get all kinds of people

    nothing about our safety!I

Rain that bad down your end?

This is what you do, the same happened to me....remember the bus no. , the time (or roughly) and send a letter to Bus Company for an apology . And you will get one and you will feel alot better especially knowing that bus driver will be talked too (not told off but close too it)

yeah...some people do their job as they're meant to....and others risk their livlihood to help people who dont have some change :whistling:

MM u have had an awful ordeal. :friends:

That's disgusting. Did you report him?

I fail to see how the driver was at fault, you chose not to take the bus.

I hope your lunch was satisfactory though.

Heck I remember things like that happening to me all the time when my kids were little :-( it's horrible, I used to have to walk, baby in sling, 2 year old in pushchair and seven year old to get to school, then get a train, then a 2 mile walk just to get her there, then a bus to take 2 year old to nursery and baby to childminder, then bus and then train to get to work, I have no idea in the world how I did it

Had a tube driver once close the doors as i pushed the pushchair on and turned round to get the hand of my daughter, pushchair with 2 year old was on and doors were closed on me :x

omg what a jobs worth. He gets the mean and cruel foot in the face award from me x x x

You poor huni are you and lil one okay? x x x

It's a bit annoying, but I wouldn't complain to get the driver into trouble.

You didn't have the correct change (not even close infact) and you didn't accept his solution...

Awful ordeal? She walked a few yards. Jeez.

He offered a solution which she didn't want. Her lunch was more important than her safety.

I am pretty sure that you are not insured on a bus (possibly more to do with the bus company and their policy) unless you have a valid ticket. This has come from a friend who drives buses.

hang on a minute let me have a think of the worst possible scenario that could happen in the world ever with the worst consequences and ill post that.....give me a sec to get my thinking cap on tho

    bus drivers are ell evil

Its sad that in 2009 bus drivers do not have change for £10.

Bus drivers discretion. I probably wouldn't have let you on as loads of people try it on where I live, especially those with kids.

lesson learned - keep change in your purse in case of emergency

mate it was the same back in 1999 if you want to take that attitude......first thing in the morning prob had 6 people doin the same already

rather than moan about the bus drivers apparent lack of concern about your safety if I was your daughter I'd be more concerned with the fact that you chose to apparently put her safety to one side just so you'd have change for a sandwich.

    some people.

In fairness, the OP doesn't and can't state how many people had already needed change for £10 so aint the bus drivers fault.

Could have called out to the other passengers to see if anyone had change.

It's a shame but this is the world we live in.

Just her, or all her mates that she tells when she gets away with it?
If the driver short changed her 80p would she complain, or just leave it?

I definately wouldn't argue with that - but the weather was rotten and she was pushing a young un at an ungodly hour of the morning..
