Found 8th Aug 2008
My Mum phoned me this afternoon. She's been staying with me this week and she got back home to find a letter from America waiting for her. This woman who wrote it says that she wanted to make contact with someone that had the same name as herself so she googled it. My Mums name matches hers (first and last) including quite an unusual spelling of the 1st name, and they are about 6 years apart in age from the discription that this woman gives of herself. Some other details match as well such as they both have a holiday cottage that they let out.

Mum thinks it's great I think it's suspicious. I googled my Mums name and she came top of the 1st page and appeared twice in the 1st four entries on the 1st page, due to the hoilday cottage website. This proves that she is very easy to find so that goes in the letter writers favour. I'm just waiting for Mum to write back a few times and a sick relative then suddenly appear who needs expensive life saving treatment. I am being too cynical or is it likely that this woman is genuine? Would be nice if she is.

this woman sounds like a weirdo, I'd tell your mum to bin the letter. Even if its not a scam, it's plain weird

cant trust a lot of people these days you only have the writers word that she/he is who they say they are
maybe let your mom carry on writing but as soon as it looks suspisious send the letters back with no longer @ this address on them lol

Suspicious, why would she want to contact your mum? Avoid.

That's what I thought. Would be lovely if it was genuine though.

It is a little strange, but wait and see what happens; could be a long lost aunt or something

i wouldnt respond, no way, if its a genuine person they should have offered you some reason for this contact, and if it is genune they will try again

you did say she was american! maybe its genuine, as long as they dont start asking for personal details or anything else dodgy wheres the harm?

Nothing like that yet but I wouldn't be suprised

the question is ... WHY??

one of my closest friends is adopted and she's said why bother looking for her parents since they havent looked for her. i think it's too late for her age ... and she was 'abandoned' after all, no return address or name or anything so if they were still alive it wouldnt be difficult to find out where she went because of official records.

Date of birth, name, address - she is halfway there to stealing your mum's identity

She doesn't know my mums age had just given hers. Also doesn't know my Mums middle name unless she's daft enough to give it to her

I guess all this identity theft and stuff is a bit beyond for some people. Would be nice if just for once it wasn't some sort of scam but a genuine reaching out across the world ( will stop now before I get poetic and soppy or break into song :-D)
