Amazon Buyer unhappy - Please advise

Hi guys,

I have sold the game "Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2" (PC)
Listed here: amazon.co.uk/Nee…4WR

The buyer has received the item and he says "it crashes before the game opens. Seems defected. I have tried changing the compatibility and all still no luck"

The game is designed for Platform: Windows 95 / 98 / 2000 / Me / XP

The game no doubt would work on these operating systems.

I don't know how to approach this really, it's not a game designed for modern computers and the amazon product page states what operating systems it is compatible with.

Any advice?

Have you asked what OS he is using?

Message has been sent asking Until I hear back, I will presume he is not using any of those listed, due to his reference of compatibility settings.

The disc itself is in immaculate condition.

Thats what I guessed aswell, so really it's his fault if he has bought the game and it is only listed as being compatible with 95 / 98 / 2000 / Me / XP . I'm guessing he has Win7 or maybe 8.

Listing clearly states what OS it's compatible with, I don't sell on Amazon so I don't know what the procedure is if a buyer isn't happy

Thanks for the advice It's only £6 or £7 minus amazon fees + cost of postage. I feel a little uneasy with how poorly written his message is (I always get the feeling of a scammer, perhaps unfairly ). Not necessarily worth the aggro, but losing money isn't what I had planned when I tested it on Windows 7 (up to installation, enter key) to check the disc worked!

No idea who amazon would find in favour of, but it would be my first negative review (currently 100% albeit only 10 or so reviews)

under the newer Amazon sellers guidelines he could have just returned it under distance selling rules as unwanted.
almost certainly not a scammer , but people buying the wrong thing is a major headache for all us sellers.
my favorite is people who buy for the wrong console then complain and leave bad feedback.
you can only laugh along , or go completely mad!.

He has just replied this:
I am using windows 7, i tried compatibility for windows 2000, windows xp (service pack 2) and (service pack 3) i also disabled visual themes, desktop composition and display scaling also tried running in 256 colours. It just keeps crashing saying the game has stopped working.

The game does not support Windows 7 - and compatibility mode is surely not enough to guarantee a game will work

If your worried about your feed back ask him to send it back at his cost and you will refund the item cost minus the postage. Explain that you are a private seller and he has made a mistake buying for the wrong os. I think from the detail he has sent you he is more or less asking if you know how to get it work so probably not a scammer.

I agree he is not a scammer, just uneducated in the way of consoles.

Advice he runs it in admistrator mode, even try it from a fresh install, from the installer setup in admin mode and then to the game exe.

Unfortunately though, sounds like he just hasn't got a clue, getting old games to run is a pain and requires a lot of determination and usually the best method isn't legally owning the disc.

A quick Google search shows this game in particular is playable, but may just be too complicated for him to actually do.

I've offered him a refund of the game excluding postage costs, and told him to keep the game as to save him paying for postage back.

Amazon meanwhile have assured me that any negative feedback he might leave with regard to the game not working, will be removed.
