Amazon have updated their policy to ban incentivised reviews

Amazon boasts of the quality and value of the customer-sourced reviews of the products it sells. However, yesterday it announced changes to its community guidelines "to prohibit incentivised reviews unless they are facilitated through the Amazon Vine program". This change should make reviews even more fair and useful for would-be shoppers.

Good news, hopefully this will make it easier to identify genuinely good products without having to scour through all the individual reviews

I imagined you saying that in a husky voice from across a dimly lit, smoke filled room before you take a sip from a glass of whisk(e)y, as you prepare to recount the horrible incident(s) which mean you will never trust Amazon again.

Problem is Amazon sell everything, sooner or later they will have what you want for the best price, and even if they slept with your mum and didnt return her calls, you can forgive. we are consumers and we are weak

Worse things happen at sea(Groupon)

sorry to hear about your mum hari

It's not going to change anything.

Many incentivised reviews come with a statement to say that a product has been given at a fair price for a review.

All that will happen now is that people won't mention this and therefore nobody will know whether a review is genuine.

It also doesn't mean that incentivised reviews won't be honest.

I always look at 3 star reviews first because you will more often get a balanced review with pros and cons.

There are also many other places to see product reviews, so it is easy to get a balance if you put some effort into researching your prospective purchases.

at least people see which are paid reviews now. all they will do is remove the disclaimer. for those of us with common sense just ignore the reviews from people posting pictures of unboxing and writing a novel about how great the product is

AMZ by any chance?!

Maybe if they only allowed reviews from those who have purchased the item it'll cut a lot of those reviews.

no, I gave up on PlayStation when they had more buttons than fingers. I just hate companies and people conning others.

There is new wording on the ART UK / AMZ Reviews site:

"You are not required to leave a review for this product. However, you are able to leave reviews for any products you purchase on Amazon if you choose to."

Will Amazon be emailing all their customers to inform them or are people expected to just know the rules have been changed?

And also end the Vine scheme. The freebies the Vine reviewers get ultimately come out of other peoples pockets and can you really give an unbiased opinion on something you got free compared to something to had to spend your own money on?
