Amazon Help / scam?

I saw a tv on the amazon marketplace from a seller.I paid for the TV.I then received a email from amazon saying :

"We're sorry, we're unable to complete your order from an Amazon Marketplace seller. We have canceled this transaction and you have not been charged for the order. In this case, the seller is currently unable to accept payment. Amazon Marketplace items must be paid for via Amazon Payments.

and the order is now gone out of my amazon account.

However the money has been taken out my account. Amazon aren't open on sundays so i cant ring them

The seller is now emailing me about if i want to pay for the TV i have to go to a western transfer point and pay him via that. He has sent me a invoice through amazon and he lives in Italy.

Im not going to pay him

If you have NOT paid him do not pay him. Because I wouldnt trust it

defo a scam!

I avoid marketplace sellers like the plague, so many scammers and hijacked seller accounts out there.

You dont pay him full stop.

They've probably put a hold on the money so that whilst the TV was on order that money was reserved to pay for it.

The money should show again in 2-5 working days.

Do not pay via Western Union, you will lose your money.

I rang my bank (HSBC) and after speaking to someone that hardly speaks English, they said i will have to ring amazon

It has for me add-man

There is currently a scam running in the Amazon Marketplace that asks you to pay via something other than Amazons usual payment method.

I was told this after seeing a TV for too low a price and asking on the AVForums website. It seems a trusted sellers account (of phones in this case) had been hacked and a dozen TV's added to reel people in. Within hours of me finding this TV it had gone.

I thought this kind of thing only happened on Ebay.

this has been happening for a long time on Amazon unfortunately, if it's not scammers then it's counterfeit goods - stick to buying from Amazon and avoid marketplace sellers.

Agreed, I never go near any Marketplace Sellers.

They are going to end up tarnishing the good name of Amazon, shame.

I am surprised Amazon are so keen to keep promoting Marketplace, it might be bringing in some short term profit but like Inactive said eventually Amazon's reputation will be seriously harmed.

I spotted those TV's, it was fairly obvious that there was something wrong, I mean they were about half the normal selling price, and there was lot's of them.

It's probably fine for low value low risk items like books, but anything expensive like TVs, cameras etc or anything that's easily available as counterfeited like memory cards, sunglasses etc then I would most definitely avoid.

agree i never buy anthing with a value of over a tenner

Whilst on the subject of Amazon Marketplace, it annoys me when someone posts a good deal on here not realising it's Amazon Marketplace and you need to add on excess postage.

I am very sceptical if it's a 1st time poster that it's actually the marketplace seller themself that's linking to it.

Marketplace deals are not allowed on HDUK and are removed by the mods....

Just to update.I rang Amazon they said that i have to cancel the money going out with my bank.
I rang my bank they said they cant cancel it, and i have to wait a few days for the money to return

Was this guys name Fayaz Ali and lives in Rome by any chance?

Yes I tried to buy a 40" sammy for £300. Knew it was a scam but thought I would roll with it anyway.

Amazon cancelled it and he asked for payment via western union then he said he had shipped it and got a fake email from amazon saying it had been shipped.

He started to insist I send the money asap.

Then I asked for the serial number of the product so I could check with samsung europe that everything was ok.

Then all went quiet for a few days.

Then a few days later the abusive emails started. Lasted 4 days and that was that!

Forwarded all the emails to amazon and got a £5 gift voucher.:)

My brother ordered an R1 retail DVD, and received a freebie R2 DVD from the Daily Mail. The other DVD he received, from a different seller, was as advertised apart from the fact that it had more scratches on it than a 78RPM piece of vinyl, and kept freezing up. Basically useless. Yes, beware the marketplace as all is not always what it seems. I ordered a PS2 game, and I was happy with the purchase. But that was just one purchase. I was probably lucky to pick a straight seller.

Wouldn't it be nice if amazons search engine had the option to filter out marketplace sellers.....

By the way, over the last few days i've been receiving emails containing a link to a virus ridden website addressed to... amazon@*****.***. And yeah you guessed it, that email address is only used for one purpose:x
