Amazon's price drop policy

I purchased 4 X Creative Labs EP-630/A Earphones
for the family for £9.99 last week that deal is now reduced to £7.99, This week I emailed Amazon for the price reduction to be applied, simple yeah 4 x £2 difference total £8 right, no this is Amazons workings,

Please note that, you have been charged 8.5 GBP for each item and
totally you have been charged 34 GBP for 4 copies. For your
information, I am listing the cost details below :

Subtotal: 34.00
Shipping: 0.00
VAT: 5.96
Total: 39.96

We are only able to adjust the price of an order in instances where
less than thirty days have passed between the date on which an order
was dispatched and the time that an item is reduced in price on our
site.

I have therefore requested a refund of 2.04 GBP to your payment
card. This amount reflects the difference between the price you were
charged and the current discounted price. The refund should appear
as a credit on your next bank statement.:x

I can see that they have subtracted the vat on what I paid and left the vat on the £7.99 ones to leave the difference. I've not had trouble on a previous item when the price was reduced and had the price drop correctly, Has anyone else come across this ?

Nope., very odd but then some companies get really fussy about VAT.
