AMD RYZEN 5 5600X for £179.74 via potential pricematch & Perkbox @ Currys

Posted 16th Oct 2021
My first post so please go easy on me currys.co.uk/gbu…tml

The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X can be bought at £270 at Curry's however you can use the curry's price match guarantee and any work discount such as perkbox which has a 7.5% discount on Curry's gift vouchers to bring overall price to a mouth watering £179.74 which I would say is a bargain. I have tried and it worked for me.

You can use the Curry's website to do the price match guarantee to bring the price down to eye watering £179.74. The 5600X is retailing for £199.99 at
ronselectronic.com/pro…128

Curry's price: £270
Ronelectronics price: £199.99
Perkbox 7.5% discount for £270 voucher saving: £20.25
Price match difference = £270 - £199.99 = £70.01
Total discount = £270 - £20.25 - £70.01 = ££179.74

Steps to follow:
1. Use perkbox discount or any other available work discounts such as XECEC to get 7.5% off £270 voucher with so essentially paying £249.75 for £270.
2. Buy the 5600X from currys using the voucher obtained from step 1.
3. Price match using the £199.99 retail price from RONSELECTRONICS against Curry's

The price match should be done after you've purchased the item. If you submit a price match claim they will reject saying the company or VAT information cannot be found, which they did twice for me. However a quick search on gov.uk website will get you the company details
find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/com…520

Try to get the price match done via online chat and they should be able to assist and Curry's will refund you £70.01 the difference between their price of £270 and Ronselectronics £199.99.

The only caveat to this is that the refund will come as Curry's gift card since you will have used gift voucher to do the initial purchase. If you want to skip step one just do step 2 and 3 you should still be able to save £70.01 and get it refunded directly to card instead. So technically you'd be paying £199.99 for Ryzen 5 5600x and from a reputable source such as Curry's. I see it as a win either way even if you're unable to get 7.5% savings from gift card.

This is a massive saving to me as I'm building my first gaming PC considering how the GPU prices have skyrocketed. I myself have done it and have got the CPU from Curry's we well as £70.01 Curry's gift card refund which frankly isn't much of use but I guess I can use it to buy printer's ink.

Goodluck

Edit: As highlighted by Bertz below "The "ready for delivery" in Curry's T&Cs does not match "We are currently not taking NEW orders" in Ronselectronics. So maybe a deal for future when the banner changes to ready for delivery and taking orders. Or you might get lucky with the price match but unlikely.

Just buy it then go onto webchat for a refund. You can return it to currys free remember. Webchat confirmed they pricematch.[image]Thank you for this; however, my understanding is that, unfortunately, it does show they have a catch-all get out clause."We'll match the prices of in-stock products (...) offerred on identical terms" I feel the words within the blackets obscure actual meaning of the sentence and hide an important term. Which is that they appear to have to give themselves a get out for pretty much every pricematch.."We'll match the prices of in-stock products (...) offered on identical terms." Yes it seems like a catch all excuse but if it was none of us would have got it. Currys don't accept used products either so it's made up rubbish. This is the response from the price match form - don't even try you need to buy it first then get webchat to refund the pricematch.

    Yep. I know what you mean. I also read the T&Cs when I bought the CPU and applied for price guarantee as it was available and ready to be delivered. So maybe not a relevant post currently but maybe in future when stock is available and ready for delivery.

    Thanks anyway, I'll update that in the post

Wow nice one! I got a 2700 back in the day for £100 from eBay and this would be my next likely upgrade..

    Yeah I did manage to get it so for about £180 a 5600X so I'm not even complaining. I do relate with currys customer service though, maybe I just got lucky this time. Or maybe could be a legit deal and currys will stand by their price match like they did with me. So I thought might as well just put in on hotukdeals for others to grab it if they want to

    nice price at rons but reviews suggest poor retails / scam

    Didn't bother with the gift card approach because my portal thing only lets me use physical and didn't want the offer to go away lol, but still managed to get the price match, even with the banner.

    Thanks op It`s back on folks i just managed to get this matched!. What a faff though. My advice is to buy from currys now since it`s in stock then get on webchat because pricematch staff will try to wriggle out of it.
    I tried the pricematch form to get a code yesterday but they refused twice quoting not Vat registered then another bizarrely tried to claim "Unfortunately, your selected retailer only provides delivery dates after purchase. This means that we are not able to match their price as it goes against the terms of our price match policy.". This is not even in their terms and i told them off.
    The webchat fella confirmed they do pricematch Rons so i got him to stay on chat while i purchased.He took the order details and setup the refund.

    The store you are referring to have a banner stating "We are currently not taking NEW orders while we process orders that have already been placed. Service will resume shortly." (edited)

    You will be just using the store as a reference for price guarantee and not buying from there. I used it for price match and bought it from Curry's and used Curry's price match to get £70.01 refund back so possibly might need to wait until they start taking orders I guess? As when I purchased mine few days ago they had the banner as in stock and taking orders. So maybe possible to keep an eye out for future I guess (edited)

    Currys T&C's on price promise
    "Both us and the competitor must have the product in stock and ready for delivery."

    Just making it clear for others that "ready for delivery" does not match "We are currently not taking NEW orders". Ultimately manually vetted by Currys so you may get lucky or indeed may need to wait to something they would match. (edited)

    Good find if you can get them to match, Currys don't need to honour that price match due to scam company and lack of stock.

    Not much of a gamble since it sells for around that on Amazon and the like anyway - sadly I bought mine last month and it's in my machine...

    Unlucky for you. I was told the same then I sent the link to gov.uk website to show that the business is registered to UK address and they accepted it so might be worth trying it with that link again. Goodluck (edited)

    Currys are refusing to price match this item because it doesn't match their terms and conditions. If they are using "against out terms and conditions" response before I purchase, I doubt very much I'd want to risk buying from Currys anyway.

    It seems like the online competition hasn't improved the terrible customer service I experienced from them 30 years ago.

    However, they are good for going to the store and deciding what you want and cheaper online. I recently found the LG Gram by going inspire, then bought it from Costco at a 33% discount.

    Cuurys responded;

    "Thank you for your price match request. Regrettably, we can not match it.

    This is because the items are sold on different terms. The competitor’s returns policy states they will refuse a return if the package has been opened or used, which contradicts our returns policy." (edited)

    That's not even in the terms they're making it up as they did with me. Just buy it then go onto webchat for a refund. You can return it to currys free remember. Webchat confirmed they pricematch.

    Thank you for your helpful advice.

    Curry's state;
    "If you purchased online, you can return your item within 14 days even if you've opened it for inspection. It must be returned as new and in its original packaging."

    RonsElectronics.state;
    "- The item shouldn't have been used in any way
    - The item should have its original packaging with all the tags etc."

    As it would be reasonable for anyone to inspect an item before accepting it, you are correct that the terms are identical. Currys must have a specialist team looking for ways to avoid price matching, either that our their staff are incompetent.

    Your advice of purchasing the item and then claiming against the price match using the webchat is good, although it does depend on the reliability of the web chat staff. I feel it's probably not worth the effort for the savings involved and the fact I would need to deal with Curry's if there are issues. However, I did report Curry's to the ASA as I believe their price match is being promoted in a way that is likely to mislead customers.

    I got someone on webchat to confirm they price matched and got them to hold while i purchased not one but 2 cpus (to save my friend the same trouble). They processed the orders and confirmed the refunds there and then. This would be your safest option.
    I've saved £140 on an equivalent 12600k build just on cpu and motherboard alone it was too good to pass up.
    Good for you reporting them to the Asa. It's only my belief that once you purchase from them that they take you more seriously.
    It's a £70 saving so i don't imagine they want this going mainstream.
