AMD64 or x86?

Hi guys, I was wondering if any of you know the difference between these two (architectures)? I am trying to install a program which comes in a version for each type but I dont know which my computer is.
When it boots up it says Proccessor: AMD Athlon if that helps. and its a fairly normal machine.
Please could someone explain how i can find out which my PC is or which is the most common? I think I read somewhere that most are x86 but I'm not sure.
    Please help thanks.

The majority are x86, does it say what version of windows you are using? In device manager - system properties does it say exactly what processor you ve got?

X86 will work on any computer you're likely to have, AMD64 should be faster if you've got a compatible processor.

AMD have used the Athlon name for years so that's not very helpful, if you want to know exactly what your processor is the ]CPU-Z should be able to tell you. If it's an Athlon 64 or Athlon X2 then go for the AMD64 version.

x86 will run on all AMD and Intel chips. AMD86 will on run on Athlon 64\Intel Core 2 and certain Pentium 4\Celeron chips, and requires a 64-bit operating system. If in doubt just get the x86 version.

    :giggle: snap.

Thanks alot guys thats helped, So I'll just get the x86 version.

x86 is the name for their 32-bit architectures used by Intel and AMD, whereas AMD64 is AMD's own 64-bit architecture.

    Hope this helps :-D
