Amjem Choudhary - early release? - surely a special case?

This lunatic will be out early on good behaviour...should this man really be allowed out of prison as early as next year given the risks our country faces.

An outspoken hate preacher who incites others to join IS.

Isn't this precisely the reason that May is suggesting repealing the Human Rights Act for those convicted of terrorist acts?

Given the current mood and recent actions in the country it does seem bizzare that he would be released.

I cant imagine May allowing it. Corbyn on the other the hand....

Maybe Corbyn could visit him in his cell and talk him into be a nice chap when he gets out. (_;)

Notorious hate preacher Anjem Choudary, accused of radicalizing the London Bridge terrorists, could be released from prison by the end of next year having served less than half of his sentence.

Choudary was jailed last September for five-and-a-half years after being convicted of drumming up support for Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

The 49-year-old British-born co-founder and leader of outlawed group al-Muhajiroun was charged after posting a series of YouTube videos recognizing the “caliphate” created by IS in Iraq and Syria.

Because he spent almost five months on remand while awaiting sentence, he could be freed from jail as early as December 2018 and no later than the end of January 2019, according to the Daily Mail.

Choudary is believed to have links to Khuram Butt, 27, who is thought to have led the trio of terrorists who ploughed into pedestrians on London Bridge in a hired van, before stabbing their victims in pubs and bars around Borough Market on Saturday night. Eight people were killed.

People like him should do a whole sentance end of... then deport the scumbag

he has served his time and will now be a model citizen, as we all know the prison system works wonders. Imagine what the prison service have had to put up with with this guy and how many new friends he has made and passed on his views to. Hope that he was in solitary but expect that would be against his human rights, which he will no doubt try and play as soon as he gets out.

Lets be blunt though, anyone who has any dealings with terrorists should have no human rights at all. Though by the end of tomorrow we may find that our new PM has a much different believe than that after telling us that anyone on a terror watch list wouldn't necessary be not allowed into the country just yesterday.

Maybe Corbyn could visit him in his cell and talk him into be a nice chap when he gets out. (_;)

    Deport to where! He's british...

Hey lets say they do deport him but where would they send him
    He is british born.
And would the other country allow him entry?
He should be in prison for a good 40 years. So an example is set for people who think of doing any country bad!

Just airdrop him somewhere safe, like the middle of the Pacific Ocean, on his release.

    PS. Without a life jacket.

I think that is what Theresa May was saying yesterday that it's going to change in a big way -

“I mean longer prison sentences for people convicted of terrorist offences. I mean making it easier for the authorities to deport foreign terrorist suspects back to their own countries".

She continued: “And I mean doing more to restrict the freedom and the movements of terrorist suspects when we have enough evidence to know they are a threat, but not enough evidence to prosecute them in full in court.

“And if our human rights laws stop us from doing it, we will change the laws so we can do it".

Deport where?, Sadly he was born here .

Typical non story from the Daily Mail
He will have served half not less than half. The 'no later than Jan 2018' comment is made up, if he applies for parole he could be refused, in which case he won't get out in Jan 2018.
The problem is the initial sentence, the judge was fully aware of when he would get out, so sentenced him with that in mind.

If it can be proven he radicalized the London Bridge terrorists then I don't see why he can't be charged with a conspiracy offence, which would be pretty much guaranteed to stop any parole application in its tracks, which would see him in jail longer.

We all hope that this is what will happen.

When we exit the EU humans right bill we could set up a prison island, remember St Helena a British Over Seas terriotory where Napolenon was held?

Any archipelago out there would be a good holding space for these life long offenders. They would be miles away from mobile phones, snacks etc!

Why should we accommodate them in jails at the expense of taxpayers?
If they are so adimant to support isis, drop em all off in Syria.

Waste of time and money. The Japanese had an very effective way of re-educating offenders with a high success rate, it was called Batoru Rowaiaru.

That won't work though, because with no one to terrorise they will just kill each other.

On second thoughts, that's not a bad idea!

    there is no rehabilitation.

The cost of keeping him in prison could heat 50 pensioners homes during the winter. Stick the likes of him on an exercise bike connected to generators, for every 50kw of electricity he generates he will get a glass of water and a bowl of soup, start making these prisoners put back into society and earn there keep in prison,

I presume we will "phone a friend" and Donald Trump will come to our rescue and he will be extradited to serve a 30 yr sentence in the USA.

Regardless of what crimes he committed against the USA, evidence false or real!

Be there praise for he, whom lets common sense prevail over the "EU human rights bill".

so you're saying we should have a 2 tier justice system and the rules and regulations that are in place and have been in place for years should be applied to prisoners differently depending on the political mood at the time?

no, fundamental human rights and the right to go about your business as you see fit providing it's legal can't just be removed, just because some harpy wanting to win an election wants to appease the village idiots with their pitchforks.

you can't punish completely innocent people, and that's exactly what these people are, regardless of what you or I think of them, they are completely innocent of any crimes, until such a time they are found guilty in a court, if there isn't enough evidence to prosecute them, and the bar is really rather low, then so be it.

i'd rather see hate preachers just on the right side of the law go about their business, than see innocent people being punished without the most basic of human rights, which is a free and fair trial before a jury of their peers, where the state can put forward the evidence against them.

it's held us in good stead for hundreds of years, and its not about to be scuppered by a few fanatics and the village idiots waving their pitchforks around, our courts won't allow such an injustice to happen, precisely because they are independent from the government, and unlike politicians they actually value the rule of law.

Just ask yourself, if these people are such a threat to society, why isn't there evidence against them by the truckload?
are our intelligence services so incompetent that they can't gather all this evidence? well, don't answer that, we know they are incompetent or rather complicit, because every attack we have had, the people have been known to them, and they have just jack **** about it, they are either allowing it to happen to push an agenda, or they are so blatantly incompetent that they should be before the could themselves for aiding and abetting terrorists.

if they want to get rid of these people that are supposedly a threat to society, then place the evidence before a court, and let the court decide.
